I will be giving speech on Monday at an MLK Day ceremony in a Veterans Home.

Help Build The Dream

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. lost his life in Memphis, Tenn., where he had gone to support striking sanitation workers in their fight to get the city to recognize their union, AFSCME Local 1733.

Today, AFSCME is helping to raise the funds to build a memorial to him on the National Mall in Washington, D.C. The groundbreaking occurred Nov. 13, 2006, and the dedication is scheduled for 2008.

More than any other union, the men and women of AFSCME are the keepers of Dr. King’s dream through our struggles to improve the lives of workers. The International Union has already made a donation of $200,000. We are asking all AFSCME affiliates, members, friends and supporters to donate to the Martin Luther King, Jr. National Memorial Project Foundation.
