Patient snow dog
Patient snow dog

This small pooch sits on a snow-covered bench in downtown Cambridge Tuesday awaiting the return of its owner who was apparently shopping in a store.

2. It is a cute pic, but upon a second look
it makes me mad! Poor little thing sitting there in the freezing cold while its selfish owner is in the warmth of some heated store!

3. Maybe the store's selfish for not letting dogs in
Lots of dogs would prefer to be hanging out with their owners instead of being left home alone, even if it means having to sit on a cold bench for a little while

5. Unless it's a helper dog
like a seeing eye dog, in most places it's against the law to bring an animal into an establishment like a store.

Anyway, it's the owner that is selfish. If you're going shopping, you leave the dog at home, just like if you're going drinking or going to the doctor, you don't bring your pet.

In this case, making your pet sit out in the cold, besides at the very least being thoughtless, is dangerous to the pet. Some rotten kid could walk by and hurt the dog, or somebody could steal the dog. Or a loud bus passing by could spook the dog causing it to lash out an bite a child walking by.

I love animals and if you are going to have an animal you need to be a responsible owner.

After all, would it be right to leave a child out in the could while you go shopping?

13. I agree about leaving the dog unattended. You don't know what
someone might do to your pet in that situation.

7. Frankly, the weather doesn't look that cold, nor does the dog. Most dogs can handle colder temps
than we can.

8. You may be right
but when it comes to animals I tend to be a little defensive.

12. I know the area pretty well, and a friend owns a store down the street from there
Lots of little shops with cool things in the window that will pull you in. It is small town main st where houses butt up against the stores and lots of people take their dogs out for a walk around the block. My friend owns a coffee shop there and I can see someone popping in for a quick cup of joe and allowing a shot like this to take place.

15. That pup is smart enough to know his butt is more comfy on the bench than on the concrete.
Since his leash seems to be tied to the bench, maybe how owner knew that too?

4. Why isn't the dog at home?
Yes, where is the owner? While pets do not belong in stores. And they sure don't belong abandoned on a park bench in the cold, or heat.

6. There's really not enough info in the pic
Suppose the owner was just popping in to buy a single item?

I combine beer runs with dog walks all the time.

14. Most dogs aren't happy when separated from their owners
The dog would look just as miserable at home.

There just wouldn't be a photo of it.

16. This dog reminds me of my late dog Maggie. She hated inclement weather
and often had that look on her face when I walked her and it was icy or rainy out.

17. Let's all think positive.
That is a cute picture. I walk down to the local Starbucks on the weekends. If I had a dog, I would take it with me. Perhaps this owner is only a few feet away buying a latte?
