Obama to End Military's 'Don't Ask, Don't Tell' Policy
President-elect Barack Obama will allow gays to serve openly in the military by overturning the controversial "don't ask, don't tell" policy that marred President Clinton's first days in office, according to incoming White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs.

The startling pronouncement, which could re-open a dormant battle in the culture wars and distract from other elements of Obama's agenda, came during a Gibbs exchange with members of the public who sent in questions that were answered on YouTube.

"Thadeus of Lansing, Mich., asks, 'Is the new administration going to get rid of the "don't ask, don't tell policy?'" said Gibbs, looking into the camera. "Thadeus, you don't hear a politician give a one-word answer much. But it's, 'Yes.'"

Well this should be interesting. I wonder if it will blow up like it did the first time.

1. Of course, it will blow up again.
The people who hate gay people will never shut up. They'll have to be dragged kicking and screaming into the new millennium. It's the only way to deal with that bunch. They've always been the squeaky wheel though. Instead of greasing them up to shut them up, we should have replaced the wheel with a functioning one long ago. I say it's a good move.

2. Policy matters most
You see, substantive policy matters like this are a lot more important than the Rick Warren invocation business. Obama may have realized that after the furor over Warren, he owed gays and lesbians big time.

3. No offense, but ...
... a. that's FOX and b. I'll believe it when I see it.

Truman integrated the military with an EO, so it's too early to judge how Obama will solve the military's problem with their homosexual personnel.
