Crime and Punishment; Is it healthy for our society to allow high ranking officials to escape
without a full and independent criminal investigation when it is widely assumed that they probably committed crimes?

I think this is a very bad thing for America. It has happened time and again that for various short term political reasons, an incoming administration will ignore the crimes of their predecessor, often serious crimes that led to death and destruction for hundreds or thousands of people.

That sends the message that we aren't a nation of laws and the fix is in. i think that's bad for the country.

i also think it is illegal to ignore the law in order to gain a political advantage.

What do you think?

2. Fuck messages. It's the same PEOPLE coming back
over and over. Cheney and Rumsfeld have criminal pedigrees going back to the Nixon administration. Poindexter from Iran-Contra was running a domestic spying operation for Bush. We keep letting them get away with it, then act surprised when they do again and again. And why wouldn't they? They know our guys are too chicken to do anything about it.

3. True, for peoples protection they need to be off the streets. It's weak on crime and weak on
national defense not remove the perpetrators.

And it strike me that it's criminal not to follow the information where it goes.

4. When I think of a nation without rule of law "for some" I think BANANA REPUBLIC
Edited on Wed Jan-14-09 11:29 PM by Dragonfli
Or should I just consider banana republics "a good template for a strong nation" instead?
What is there to make us different if not the concept of no citizen above the law?

It is illegal to ignore the law in order to gain political advantage by the way, I suppose it is the catch 22 of holding the accomplices after the fact also above the law that takes care of that pesky detail.
