Is Newsweek a RW rag?
Edited on Wed Jan-14-09 10:22 PM by butlerd
I just got my most recent issue of Newsweek and the cover story is: "What Would Dick Do". The full article can be found online at: http://www.newsweek.com/id/178855.

I don't have time to post any major portions of the article, however the gist of the article seems to be that Bush (but primarily Cheney) greatly expanded the powers of the Presidency to fight terrorism and that Obama should think twice before rolling back executive power TOO MUCH because, as the article suggests, he may become too enfeebled to adequately fight terrorism and protect the country. Oh, and the article make sure to point out how a growing number of CIA operatives are taking out insurance policies for legal fees. :eyes:

Basically, the article seems to be one long Bush/Cheney apologist tract in regards to torture, illegal wiretapping, rendition, Gitmo, etc.. It actually seems rather in line with Cheney's suggestion to Obama that he study what they did and reconsider them before simply discarding their (illegal) policies. :puke:

The article was written by Stuart Taylor Jr. and Evan Thomas but I don't know much about them. Are they pukes? Hacks?

Awful AWFUL article!! :puke: I wouldn't normally subject people to junk like this but I just thought I'd let everybody hear the latest round of RW propaganda going around (and it ain't pretty).

2. Unfortunately, yes

Thankfully, my subscription is free (courtesy of my Dad). Otherwise, I'd cancel it right now. Actually, I'm not sure if I am going to be able to look at another issue.

3. I made the mistake of looking at a Newmax at a med office.
Thought it was a newsweek until I started reading it. Much worse than newsweek. But yes, they have.

4. They ran a piece in which it was suggested that Caribou Barbie be a SCOTUS appointee.
That plus the fact that KKKarl now writes for them is enough for me.

5. Hell Yeah! The Economist is superior and covers
most of the same important issues. It comes from a 'Big Business' perspective as well, but is not as blatantly shameless in it's reporting.

6. Does Time/Warner still own Newsweek?
Edited on Wed Jan-14-09 10:33 PM by stillcool47
I read something a while back about a merger between Newsweek and GE, but can't find anything. Damn..the Washington Post owns Newsweek. I'm confused.

7. It depends on the article and who wrote it...
some are RW crap and others are not. When it comes to Newsweek, Time and other publications like those...I've learned to disregard the crap that gets written in them.

I'm not trying to defend Newsweek. They did print a story about the Koran being flushed down the toilet at Gitmo as an interrogation technique, but later retracted the story. Newsweek also attended a secret meeting at the WH with Wolfowitz in November 2001. There were other policy and Middle East experts. The goal was to do a report for bush that outlines a strategy in dealing with Afghanistan and the Middle East. I have no doubt Iraq was a major topic of discussion.

This is why when it comes to corporate media a person has to be careful about what they believe is credible and what isn't.
