The point of the name change amnesty isn't to make it so people no longer know who you are; it's simply to like, ya know, change your username in case you've grown tired of it and stuff.

when I first signed in that spelling followed by NJ was apparently not ok - so I tried the spelling I briefly used in Jr High - until my English teacher counted it as a spelling error!

17. I've never understood why folks would do such a thing.

Guess it's akin to moving to a new town and having new neighbors who don't know you, but still having the same neighbors. Just doesn't make sense to me, but I make no judgments about others who do so.

But I would like this opportunity to tell people that right before the amnesty ends--check your ignore list so you can see the new names and update appropriately.
After the last amnesty...the bottom of the posts said "poster formerly known as (fill in the blank)" so it shouldn't be hard to do.

After giving much thought to giving the Horse with No Name a new name...I've decided against it.
I'm not embarrassed about any position I have taken and even finding my views becoming validated as time goes on.

I came to DU a few days after Kerry was defeated. I was depressed to the point of being almost suicidal as a result of Bozo being re-elected. Considering my mood those days I have no clue why I would have ever given myself such a screen name but in retrospect it ain't bad and I am keeping it forever.

I'd like to bring my user name into line with the one I use elsewhere on the interwebs. This was one of the first boards I posted to and I used an abbreviated form of the name because it was my e-mail addy at the time. Not a big change, but I'd love to be able to change it and keep my member date, post count, etc.
