1. I opted to go on antidepressants for 3 months after Dean lost the primaries.
I know you are joking, but I'd never been on them before or after that. It was interesting. I couldn't feel anything and I wasn't happy or sad. I was just "existing" and not being an embarrassment to anyone. I finally opted to quit them. I am not saying they aren't a good thing, and I'm not saying that I don't desperately need them, but I prefer being able to feel the good and the bad without them. Being emotional or passionate is not really acceptable in America. People want to back the fuck away from you or tell you to 'chill'. This is why I am mostly ashamed of who I am.

2. that was certainly a bad time for me, too...
and i am very glad that to hear that you fully recovered :toast:

next time you may feel ashamed of your feelings think of this quote...
"There is nothing healthy about being well adjusted to a sick society"

I forget who said that but it certainly helps me when I look around and wonder why I am reacting so differently to todays horrible events than my neighbors and peers.

3. you described how I feel before I take them.
Just 'existing'.

Antidepressants DO help some. In ways a community cannot.

5. I hear you LOUD AND CLEAR.
Being emotional or passionate is not really acceptable in America. People want to back the fuck away from you or tell you to 'chill'.

That is a reason that I love Cuba! There, being passionate and emotional is almost a prerequisite.

But Bush banned me from visiting my family over there, and that has me in a bit of a tailspin.

I lost the love of my life on October 5. Don't know if I'm going to make it.
