Man accused of selling daughter for cash, beer
GREENFIELD, Calif. — Police have arrested a Greenfield man for allegedly arranging to sell his 14-year-old daughter into marriage in exchange for $16,000, 100 cases of beer and several cases of meat.

Police said they only learned of the deal after the 36-year-old man went to them to get his daughter back because payment wasn't made as promised. The man was arrested Sunday on suspicion of human trafficking.

Officers also arrested an 18-year-old man on suspicion of statutory rape. Investigators believe the girl went willingly with the man, but she's under California's legal age of consent and can't legally marry.

Police say arranged marriages involving underage girls have become a problem in this small Central Coast farming community.

12. Yes. Ag workers from remote parts of Mexico.
The beer, meat, etc., is for the wedding celebration.

Rural Mexican communities have many satellite communities here, sort of like the isolated gated communities of the United States in the Arab oil producing nations.

If you are a U.S. citizen working in Saudi Arabia you'd best keep your beer drinking, ham sandwich eating, oggling of Super Bowl cheer leaders within the walls of your own community.

6. Cops and courts have no end of stories
...of people filing reports on their drugs being stolen. Or people with revoked licenses speeding past highway patrol central offices.

Crime makes you stupid.

8. Looks like three illegals will soon find themselves back in Mexico.

Another article listed 50 cases of wine and 50 of gatorade in the deal as well.

I can't imagine who would expect an 18-year-old to come up with a valuable dowry like that. Whatever happened to goats as a viable bride price.
