Rick Warren is Meddling in the Episcopal Church...Again
Several fundamentalist breakaway parishes in California recently tried to carry their property with them, and the state supreme court just ruled against them.

They are free to leave if they like, in other words, but they have to drop off the keys on the way out.

Well, Rick Warren, who has a long history of involvement with the schismatic fundamentalists who are trying to break up not only the Episcopal Church but also the worldwide Anglican Communion, and who never lets pass an opportunity to promote himself, has just announced that any "evangelical orthodox Anglicans" who need a place to meet can use Saddleback Church.

How magnanimous of him!

Here's the announcement, in his own words:

already considered me an adversary after partnering on projects with Kolini, Orumbi, and Nzimbi, and writing the TIME bio on Akinola.

But since last summer... I’ve been on Gene Robinson and other’s attack list for my position on gay marriage. .... brothers and sisters here at St. James in Newport Beach lost their California State Supreme Court case to keep their property.

We stand in solidarity with them, and with all orthodox, evangelical Anglicans. I offer the campus of Saddleback Church to any Anglican congregation who need a place to meet, or if you want to plant a new congregation in south Orange County.

Adversary! Attack list! Such drama! Joan of Arc had it easy next to this martyr!

4. So nice to issue an invitation with a lie
Because it's flat out wrong, as Warren says, that "brothers and sisters here at St. James in Newport Beach lost their California State Supreme Court case to keep their property." The folks at St. James didn't lose anything, because the church building and the property it's on never belonged to them in the first place.

I wonder why Tubby the Preacher (as the Rude Pundit has dubbed him) finds it necessary to violate one of the Big Ten by bearing false witness?

5. Hell, let him
I'm sure he'll collect a handsome rental amount from the fundies. The fundies will squabble among themselves for time slots on Sunday.

Everybody wins.

7. These particular "Anglicans" will be much more at home with Warren's Baptists.
They are Anglican in much the same way that I am Mahatma Gandhi.

8. If you've ever heard much about Gene Robinson, or heard him talk
I think you'd find those accusations hysterical...

If he really wants to take in that collection of hateful malcontents, I think he'll find that he's bitten off more than he can chew, to be honest.

13. I'm no longer a believer
But I'm so proud of my former church. They're doing the right thing on several issues, and they're taking all kinds of grief for it.

And it is good to see. I like what I've seen of Bishop Katherine very much.

19. I love Gene Robinson, even though I'm no longer an Episcopalian.
I may not believe in god anymore, but I appreciate a person who stands for gay rights.

Warren is standing for a homophobia, he is NOT a martyr, he's an asshole. :puke:

15. We should make a betting pool
What will Ricky Boy do to try to hog the spotlight to himself at inauguration?

My bet--he'll use the occasion pray/whine to G-d to forgive his (Warren's) "adversaries" for their hatred and intolerance, thus hoping to demonstrate both his own loving, paternal benevolence and the evil motives of those who "persecute" him.

16. That's an excellent guess.
I think he might also manage to slip something in about the need to protect the strong families that are the bedrock of this great nation.

18. One other thing
After reading Warren's pious, self-righteous defense of these folks--

I'm quite sure anyone who leave HIS church is offered a refund of all money donated, plus interest, right?

Right?
