Palin: Couric 'not the center of everyone's universe'
Source: Newsday

Now we know how Sarah Palin really feels about the media - and Katie Couric too.

In two words, not happy.

In a wide-ranging interview posted on the Internet yesterday, John McCain's running mate was sharply critical of a series of interviews she had conducted with CBS' Couric, saying they had been edited to make her appear misinformed, and at one point sharply noted of the "Evening News" anchor, "Katie, you're not the center of everyone's universe."

She also criticized her own campaign for insisting that she conduct other interviews with Couric, even after it became obvious the first encounter had gone poorly. "It didn't go well, the first day, and then my question to the McCain campaign why are we going to go back for more? ... They said, yeah, we're going back for more. That was not a wise decision."

Those interviews, conducted shortly after her nomination, were widely viewed as a fiasco when she stumbled over answers, or seemed uncertain of basic facts. Palin added that "to me, the question was more along the lines of, 'What do you guys do up there?'" and that she then offered a flip answer. "Of course I read newspapers," she said in the Web interview.

3. It is clear, however, that Couric is the center of Palin's universe.
Palin must obsess about the Couric interview and must see it as her downfall. She clearly blames it on "handlers," not having the guts to tell her campaign she would not continue the interview or the guts to tell us now that she was ultimately responsible for her own behavior.

She's a loser.

4. Unfortunately, Couric is the center of Palin's universe.
Palin, all starry-eyed as a veep candidate, was ready to drop Alaska in a heartbeat, and to woo Couric with all of her milliwatt intellect. Couric and Gibson are the reasons she's famous, and major reasons she was sent home in defeat, with weak prospects for reelection.

And Palin, we know, is nothing if not vindictive. She won't be able to let her humiliation go, and it will eat away at whatever's left of her soul for whatever's left of her career and beyond.

Seems she's at the emotional development level of a teenage girl.

"You know, Katie, I mean, like, you're not like the center of everyone's universe, you know! I mean, like just like get over yourself already!"

7. Ahh, Couric was hardly a bulldog in that interview
In fact, by my estimation, Couric was barely doing the job a journalist is supposed to do.

But Palin, being a consumate republicon homelander, naturally entered the FAIL Zone. ALL ON HER OWN.

SARAH, you are a republicon. Deal with it. America don't want no more steenkin, perverse republicon 'family values,' corruption, incompetence, lies, and FAIL. Deal with it.

12. IIRC, Couric was chosen to interview Palin with specific anticipation of a warm reception.
Lots of people wanted to interview Palin at that time, which was near the end of her Howard Hughes phase of the campaign. But Palin chose Chirac because she was hoping to be interviewed by a friendly cheerleader. Oh, now I see Palin didn't make that decision and was opposed to it. It was somebody else's fault. How Republican of her.

9. It was edited to make her look stupid. Uhh, yeah.
They didn't have to edit the interview, Sarah. You made yourself look stupid, all on your own.

You're through; get over it.

13. And this gets media coverage why exactly? Are we going to get subjected to this every time Palin
burps from now on? Why? Someone needs to take the media to task. They need to do their jobs as watchdogs. Forget fawning over celebrities, acting like everything Palin says is important, etc. Fulfill your Constitutional role, you maroons!
