Palestinian Toll Passes 700; Around One-Third Children
http://www.democracynow.org/2009/1/8/headlines#1

"Tens of thousands of Palestinians have fled their homes in the southern town of Rafah as Israel intensifies its assault on the Gaza Strip. Palestinians reported dozens of Israeli air strikes overnight, with attacks hitting homes, mosques and tunnels. Earlier today, the UN said Israeli forces fired on one of its relief convoys trying to pick up supplies. Al Jazeera reports at least one Palestinian was killed and two others injured. At least twenty-nine Palestinians were killed in Israeli attacks Wednesday, including a family of four traveling in their car in Beit Lahia. The Arabic news channel Al Jazeera reports the Palestinian death toll stands at more than 700 overall, including 219 children. More than 3,000 Palestinians have also been wounded. Ten Israelis have died over the same thirteen-day period, including seven soldiers, four of them by so-called friendly fire."

1. My lord.
How can anyone truly justify the treatment of this people?

3. All that is being accomplished is the further...
radicalization of the Palestinian people. The Israeli gov't is mistaken if they believe they can bomb their way to peace.

10. Yes and the House will tomorrow, sure there will be a handful who
will not vote or vote no, and the rest will get in line behind our leaders.

15. Just glanced at your link, hardly any elected official will
bring up any of these facts on the floor, I remember the sale of the missiles in 2007.

18. Sadly I agree - I had one staffer actually tell me
that "the act didn't apply because it was a matter of self defense" and that "I didn't know what I was talking about, our allies have always observed human rights".

Brick wall ....:banghead:

I am calling and writing these days purely on a maniacal Quixotic aspect of my nature that I seem to have been born with.

I hate to say it but I think it is as simple as lobbyist power. I get the same stonewall tone every time I advocate for Health Care that is not insurance profit based.

AIPAC influence?

OT - From a discussion in another thread that took a turn to HC and Zeke Emanuel...

FWIW

Employers are out of the picture, we get a health care voucher to buy a basic benefits package from some type of insurance company and the funding comes from a value added tax of 8 to 10%, excluding some basic items such as food.

Interview from last year...

http://www.pbs.org/now/news/315.html

"Promises of universal health care roll off the tongues of several presidential candidates but how do they plan to achieve it? Dr. Ezekiel Emanuel, Director of the Clinical Bioethics Department at the U.S. National Institutes of Health, says he's got the solution, in the form of an innovative and crowd-pleasing voucher plan.

"I think the universal part appeals to the Democrats. The voucher part appeals to Republicans. And I think it should make us one big happy family," Dr. Emanuel tells David Brancaccio in a web-exclusive interview."

24. LOL! I should have responded with that, but I only said I disagreed as does the UN and
politely asked if they would at least take down my stated concerns.
I doubt regular people ever get farther than the staffer and I also doubt if they even take down anything but I still always revert to polite and try anyway (just in case).

All those young people; they are breeding hate and the cycle will never be broken.

17. We need to have a policy that holds both the Israeli government and Hamas accoutable for their sins.
The Israeli and Palestinian people have suffered at the hands of their leaders for long enough.

21. But look at these one-sided resolutions we pass and the weapons
we sell to one set of people. All the senators voted today to support Israel and they say nothing about the blockade and occupation.

This killing is being done in our name as well :(
