Can We **Please** Moderate The Purity
There are so many things I "want." I want to be able to go to a Hugh Hefner Party and be able to have my pick of any woman there for as long as I want. It's just not happening.

I want to win lotto and retire tomorrow. It's just not happening.

I also want some other things.

I want our troops home from Iraq tomorrow if not today.
I want progressives on the Supreme Court, real progressives in the tradition of Brennan, Marshall, Warren, and Goldberg.
I want HMO bureaucrats out of our health care system.
I want health care guaranteed and separate from employment.
I want our national debt eliminated.
I want taxes raised on the rich to their Eisenhower or Kennedy levels.
I want Bin Laden dead.
I want global warming reversed.
I want every school in America to have the proper infrastructure.
I want NCLB perforated and used as toilet paper.
I want all loose nukes secured.
I want us to create alternative sources of energy that is safe and environmentally friendly so we can tell Saudi Arabia to go Cheney itself.
I want it to be easier to form a union.
I want paper ballots required for every election.
I want felony disenfranchisement over.
I want Washington DC to have two senators by 2010.
I want student loan rates to be interest free.
I want college tuition costs cut in half.

Oh and I want Angelina Jolie. And I want Tom Brady to dump his girlfriend so she can go out with me. Except for money I'd be the better husband. Heck if you give me a golden goose, I'd want that too.

Now here is what I know. I am not going to get everything I want. I will get some of it, all of it in some instances, some of it in others, and nothing in others. But instead of whining about it, I'll appreciate what I have because at this point, that's a million times better than what we've had for the past 8 years.

1. Interesting how you bookend your lofty wants with your sexual wants. Yeah, I take you seriously.

But it ain't gonna happen.

Sometimes we just need to accept that life isn't always fair and we don't always get what we want and to be happy for what we have got.

I have a right to demand something better. Notice that I didn't say want. That word is exactly the wrong word to use in this context. We have rights. And it's time we stand up on our hind legs and demand they be honored.

"Appreciating what we have because it's better than what we had" is a poor idea. Obama has asked that the people provide input. I intend to do so.

30. What I want on some issues
is to the left and MORE than what you may want. It's how you get there. Obama hasn't even been inaugurated and the attacks from many of his supporters, of which I am one, have been too shrill. There's a danger to that. He hasn't signed a single piece of legislation, let's ask for what we want but also not overdo it.

20. The BIGGEST "Purists" on DU....
...are the "Centrists".

There are more "Centrist" DEMANDS for unquestioning allegiance to their political philosophy than any other on DU today.
Wherever the capricious "Center" goes, they demand we follow without complaints or questions.

Sorry.
I BELIEVE in certain things.

1) I believe that it was WRONG to invade and occupy a country that did NOT threaten, and could NOT threaten us. I also believe that those representatives with integrity OPPOSED the invasion.
Those that claim that "Bush fooled them" are either lying, or too stupid to be in government.
Some points are given to those who state that they made a bad decision.

Naturally, I am upset by a cabinet that contains NO ONE who was right about Iraq, but only those who were WRONG.

2)I am strongly PRO-LABOR, and feel that the Democratic Party abandoned Working Americans during the Reagan administration. The policies of "Free Trade", deregulation, and privatization of the CommonWealth have destroyed good American jobs and turned our workforce into a slave wagers.
I strongly feel that the policies of Reagan and Clinton tilted the Economic field strongly in favor of the Ownership Society while dismantling the safety nets of the bottom 50%.
Naturally, I am upset to see Obama surrounding himself with the very people who helped create this problem.

3) I strongly supports Civil Rights and Equal Protection for ALL Americans....no exceptions.
YOU may not think this is a big issue, but many of us do, and we are not going to bite our tongues just to make you fell all warm and fuzzy.

Most of us were aware that Obama is not a Liberal/Progressive, though he uses vague Progressive rhetoric and Progressive imagery in his speeches. His voting record since he obtained his seat in The Senate has been safe/center Right. This year, he voted FOR Telecom Immunity after promising not to do so. He also supported the $800 Billion no strings attached Bailout after promising to ensure that there were protections for Taxpayers.....There weren't.
I'm NOT OK with this, and will SPEAK OUT.

Obama did promise he would have an inclusive administration.
He has included the DLC and The Republicans in top positions, but those who speak for The Left are conspicuously absent.
I'm not OK with this, and will SPEAK OUT.

We (The Left) agreed to hold our tongues during the campaign, and work our butts off to get "a Democrat" elected, but after November 4th, all bets were off. If you think it is bad NOW, wait until the Centrist (DLC) Democrats try to escalate the War in Afghanistan, INCREASE the Defense Budget, or Privatize Social Security.

I am a tireless advocate for PEACE.
I am a tireless advocate for Civil Rights and Equal Protections for ALL....no exceptions.
I am a tireless advocate for Rule of Law, no exceptions for the Elite Class.
I am a tireless advocate for The Constitution.
I am a tireless advocate for The Poor and the Disenfranchised.
I am a tireless advocate for Working Americans.
I am a tireless opponent of the MIC.
I am a tireless opponent to the concentration of Wealth & Power into fewer hands.
I am a tireless opponent to Corporate/Republican Influence INSIDE the Democratic Party.

I've been here for a long time.
I am not going anywhere.
I am not going to be quiet.
I don't care if the Republicans/Bigots/Centrists get their feeling hurt.

"Centrism !!"....for those who are proud to be "Half-Republican".

"Centrism"...because its sooooo easy!
You don't have to STAND for ANYTHING, and get to insult those who do!

"There are forces within the Democratic Party who want us to sound like kinder, gentler Republicans. I want us to compete for that great mass of voters that want a party that will stand up for working Americans, family farmers, and people who haven't felt the benefits of the economic upturn."---Paul Wellstone

21. It's easy to make light of weighty issues this way.
Take a view to the extreme in order to ridicule it.

Characterizations like "whining," and building a strawman ("better than what we've had" -- duh!) are easy, as well.

The OP you're mocking speaks for itself. We have a majority, and it's an opportunity. As I see it, BushCo has taken us so far off course that we need to steer sharply left just to get back to center. Moderation, reaching across the aisle, conciliation toward people who've taken us down this path are not necessary, and to some it's disheartening and frustrating to see.

24. It is for some about more than purity of wants - "Be not intimidated...
nor suffer yourselves to be wheedled out of your liberties by any pretense of politeness, delicacy, or decency. These, as they are often used, are but three different names for hypocrisy, chicanery and cowardice."

"Government is instituted for the common good; for the protection, safety, prosperity, and happiness of the people; and not for profit, honor, or private interest of any one man, family, or class of men; therefore, the people alone have an incontestable, unalienable, and indefeasible right to institute government; and to reform, alter, or totally change the same, when their protection, safety, prosperity, and happiness require it."

You only need to have gone to High school to understand what many in this nation consider worth fighting for and why we are not so comfortable with certain "compromises".

41. Framing.
One of the real advances in the battle to crawl out from under Reaganism, was a popular understanding of "messaging": "framing", "talking points", and the like. The way that questions are posed, often dictate, and are intended to dictate, the answers.

Let's consider your post.

You equate personal fantasies with political essentials, things of great significance with "cliches-for-living", and a natural desire for a pretty minimal political program with "purity", the last said in such a way as to be "bad".

There are two different messages in your post and neither one of them is worth a damn.
