Why is the Obama campaign still asking for money?
And if you make a donation of any amount before midnight tonight, you could be selected to come to Washington, D.C., and be part of the welcome ceremony, the swearing in, the Inaugural Parade, and the Inaugural Community Ball.

Will you make a donation of $25 or more and be part of the historic moment you made possible?

We have a long road ahead of us, and we're going to face some major challenges as soon as we start. But I know I can count on you every step of the way.

2. He's gonna have to run again in 2012.
Plus, we have to prepare for the Joe Biden / Hillary Clinton 2016 Presidential ticket.

18. Not just the inauguration
Ive gotten emails for the DNC's debt as well. But you are correct, the emails say why the money is being asked for. Too bad many can't read.

11. Maybe it's because
some of us have missed the OP's when they are here? Some of us do other stuff besides reading DU all day, every day.

It is not an unreasonable question.

15. If you gave to the obama campaign and they have your email, then you are getting the appeal in your
email in box.

I never read about this on DU.

I see it in my in box regularly.

But if you didn't give to the campaign and supply your email, then you aren't getting asked to give, so you wouldn't be getting an appeal. If you aren't getting an appeal, why are you wondering why you are getting an apeal for money?

19. Most candidates don't keep asking for money after being elected.
At least not until the next election cycle. I think $40 million is plenty to spend on an inauguration in this economy and he has a lot of nerve to keep asking. Being on his email list should not just be about fundraising.

21. It's against the law to spend campaign money on the inauguration. in the past, the corporations and
special interests picked up the tab. Guess why?

So, Obama is attempting to do it a different way. I'm glad he is.

If you aren't well, just delete the email and try not to blow a fuse.

4. He's raising money for the inauguration
It's not paid for out of campaign funds or by the taxpayers. The inaugural committee has a goal of $40 million and last I heard they were at $27 million.

12. Yep! I am amazed at how many people aren't aware of why he is raising money. He says so
right in his appeals, clear as a bell.

13. I can read. But why am I supposed to pay for the inauguration?
I thought Obama was supposed to help the American people, not keep hitting us up for money. I think asking us to pay for the inauguration is totally inappropriate.

17. bush asked Exxon. If you prefer that, that's cool. I haven't sent any money for the
inauguration. But I understand why I'm being asked to. I just don't have it.

22. There is no lobbyist or corporate sponsorship
for the inauguration this year, as there have been in the past. *cough* W *cough*

Only individuals may contribute, per Obama's rules since the campaign.

I'm getting appeals too and I just don't have the money.

26. If you don't want to send them money, don't
No one is forcing you to. I can't afford to send anything now, but I don't get all upset about the e-mails. I read them and then delete them. Not a big deal.

6. I was wondering the same thing
I am wondering how to pay the electric bill this month. I don't recall being asked to donate to a candidate once they have been elected.

And no, I do not want to be on The Mall in D.C. on that historic day - 1 bathroom to each 6000 people does not sound like very much fun at all to me. I will be happy to watch it from here.
