3. Yes, I saw that Pepsi is trying to cash in on O's popularity with their TV ads.
AS IF that's gonna make folks rush out and buy a six-pack of liquid Obama.

6. OMG. If they put the Obama campaign logo on the can, Pepsi would sell out.

9. Hey, if you are reaching for a cola, and the Coke is right next to the Pepsi, you might
reach a couple feet to the left and grab the pepsi instead. (I assume it will be to the left)

20. Hmm, maybe if Pepsi were renamed Hopesi
and sported the Obama logo, I would reach for the can on the left to inspect it.

Then put it back and roll my eyes thusly

and nothing else on the sign.

It is what started me on this. That seriously reminded me of the Obama logo

8. I think the new logo is less like the Obama logo, but the overall bottle design
is much updated. I rarely drink soda anymore but had a coupon for a buy-one-get-one-free and picked up some Pepsi at the store. I had to look hard at the bottles to figure out what it was. What's this, a soda bottle with just a name and logo, not screaming 10 different messages at me?!

10. Uh....
If you're going to make that connection, I think there's a better case t made that Obama was cashing in on Pepsi.

And seriously, Pepsi's new logo is much closer to their older logo than to Obama's.

14. agreed. the new logo is simply a variation of the old one. but if you invert it
so the colors are in the same location as the Obama logo, they appear similar to me.

19. It's insulting to the overpaid Pepsi brand "creatives" to think for a moment...
that they didn't notice the similarity in the designs, and that they aren't hoping to Catch That Obama Wave by adapting their logo to look more like Obama's. No doubt about it, though it would never be the only consideration. (You'd be right to say that, after all, this is an abstract circle design in primary colors and thus not exactly uncommon.)

As you say, the Obama side may also have been thinking in the first place of their logo's evocation of Pepsi.

Sigh.

11. The new one is red, blue, white with a wave through a circle, so was the old one
That's really the only similarity between the three. The new one is no more similar to Obama's than the old one was.

12. Maybe the similarity is the other way around ......
.... I'm pretty sure Pepsi has been using a variant of that logo for many years ... maybe even more than 47.

In fact, here's a 1940 Pepsi logo.

But yeah, I can see how the new one was stolen.

15. Since there is no directionality to the design ... turn it over ...
However, I think you'll see a lot of corps getting away from the uber-patriot logos. That has been so abused we can't even look at an American flag without thinking of torture and death.

I was at EDS back in the olden days, and they changed their straight-text logo so the letters were italicized - or, for those without interest in typefaces, "leaning forward." This was done (we were told in hushed tones) to make consumers realize that "the company was moving forward." To the right, evidently. Not surprising, either. I remember thinking how stupid it was, but also that it could be effective.

This post makes me think of that, because...the original Pepsi logo wave through the middle was "flat," or straightlined. Now it moves "up" on an angle. It's psychological, but I'll bet you anything it gives people a more positive and upbeat opinion of the brand (subliminal though it may be).

Hmmm. Maybe I should have stayed in logo design. I could have just thrown everything up a curve and made the big bucks. :-)

Something must be clogging Media Bistro's tubes.

This is what the new logo reminds me of:

30. Pepsi used to buy their sugar from a plantation in Cuba owned by Prescott Bush
When Castro took over, Pepsi and Grandpa Bush lost a lot of money. Which explains the Bush Crime Family's obsession with Cuba.

A few years later, Prescott Bush's protege Richard Nixon attended a Pepsi board meeting in Dallas Texas.

I'll give you three guesses what the date of that board meeting was. :evilfrown:
