I watched "Who Killed the Electric Car?" today. It was a very good film. I did think the conclusion at the end that the consumer was guilty was wrong. Many consumers did not even know the car existed. I think many more people would have been willing to buy the car if they had know about the car.
I didn't think the film itself was saying the consumer was responsible. I thought they (very effectively) used the content of the show to demonstrate that the car companies were wrong to blame the consumer ...

and the real scandal is that GM refused to extend the leases and junked the cars instead.
Remember, it was a very limited production and offered to very few people to lease. It was never offered to consumers, as a group. You pretty much had to know somebody who knew the inside scoop to get your name on the list for a lease.
Consumers didn't kill it. GM executives killed it.
