They were featured on the evening news tonight -- I have not been that CREEPED OUT in a VERY long time.

(Sorry the pic is so large! I'm too lazy to re-size it...)

11. Reminds me of when our little poodle had a false pregnancy
she carried around a little red squeeky toy, and nudged it toward her tummy to nurse..and washed it and slept with it.. (she had been spayed, and had never even seen a male dog).. The vet had to give her some hormone shots..and we had to remove her "baby" from the house... she looked and looked for that thing..and we never bought her another toy that squeeked:)

they are so interactive..and it seems that every day they learn something new.. and it makes them soooooo happy:)and they are MOBILE :)..even if you have to put all the pans back in the cupboard 5 times a day..and pick cat hair from their little hands all day long..and try to sooth an almost hairless cat if you can coax them out from under the bed:)

38. I love all baby ages, but the most adorable age is about
8 and a half months to 15 months, because at that age they are total clowns. They laugh at everything and will do anything to get a laugh out of you.

I like the larval stage because the are so miraculous at that age--changing and developing before your eyes, just like a plant in a fast-motion photography film. It doesn't een seem real sometimes. I did daycare for 18 years, raising 35 children, many of them from 2 weeks of age. People who think that newborns don't do anything just don't know newborns. They do smile and play and learn at that age.

But those babies between 8.5 and 15 months are simply hilarious. Whenever someone with a 5- or 6-month-old goes on about their baby, I tell them, "Yep. They are incredibly adorable at that age, but just wait. You won't believe how much more adorable they will get in just a couple of months!

3. Ecccch!
The BBC did one of their sexploitation shows on the fake baby phenomenon. It took a bit of a turn when it came out that one of the women lavishing every cent she had on baby clothes and toys and other stuff had been through a stillbirth some 6 months earlier.

The "orgasmic childbirth" lady got reamed pretty thoroughly here on DU a week or two ago.

As for the nine year old, is she giving or receiving? Big difference there, and both are possible in this wicked world of ours.

Let a human being smash her head against your G spot long enough and it happens. My daughter fairly flew out at that point, still in her sac and mewing like a kitten. Of course, my whole labor was only about two hours and felt great. YMMV.

44. I don't think so
I didn't expect pain, so it was merely interesting (kind of an out-of-body experience because your body is on automatic). I've talked to quite a few with the same general experience, especially ladies with a background of psychedelics. My next baby, I had a cerclage and went into labor early, and it took hours for the doc to come and remove the stitches, so I know that pain can be very real and you can't always get around emergencies (too-large kid, too-small opening, sideways, etc.) but pooh-pooh all you want--state of mind and expectations have a HUGE effect on how pleasurable you find it. IMHO, we're mammals and childbirth is simply the return trip of a sex act. The fact that it's always portrayed in movies and teevee as this intensely painful experience is the biggest disservice to women of all because that promotes lousy expectations for a lot of women with no other role models.

46. In America, for one . . . .
I didn't see all of the segment, but there were a number of countries

mentioned where breastfeeding continues to 4-5 years old ---

I'd deal with that first in America --- we have a long way to go.

As I recall it, breastfeeding is recommended to age 4 --

Also, we have a colostrum problem -- that's the first milk, slighly yellowish,

which is available only for the first 24 hours, as I recall that.

We need a Colostrum Revolution ---

There is a lot wrong with humanity and its violence and breastfeeding is a great

place to start the revolution!

Edited on Sun Jan-04-09 12:13 AM by defendandprotect
concentrate on an entire nation that thinks that boobs are for lovers and

not for children!

Concentrate on our sexual hangups in that regard and what males are taught

about female breasts --

Concentrate on nature's gift to children, to health into old age, by way

of a female's breast milk --

and concentrate on how hard patriarchy has worked to make breasts simply

sexual and not nuturing --- not health giving -- not wondrous.

and keep concentrating until you get to the WHY of it all --

Nature puts its trust in women and gives almost every detail of childbearing

and childcare to the care of females.

Patriarchy's war on nature and females is self-evident --

or taking care of younger siblings. They sure as hell aren't sucking on mom's teat. If mom has any milk at all, it's going to young infants, not to preadolescent kids.

Some people on this board have absolutely insane notions about what life is like in the rest of the world.

If you look on eBay, they're selling like crazy, and for huge prices. You don't have to settle for a generic baby, either--they will make one to your specifications and the show I saw (on BBCA) had a woman order one that looked like her grandson. I was halfway sympathetic because they made it sound like her daughter had died and the SIL took the kid home to Oz. Nope--the family simply moved away. Another woman had a room full of the things and spent thousands of dollars on accessories and clothes--a baby for every mood, a pram for every occasion, and £1000 outfits ("not like they outgrow them!") Honestly, the whole thing is as pathetic as it is creepy. I suppose we could find men with equally unhealthy obsessions (pr0n, trains, or Star Wars?), but they'd have to really be lost in them to rival how disturbing this is.

I can see them, however, for Alzheimer's patients. Nothing calms an old lady like having a baby to care for. Of course, if you're demented you can probably do with a hand-me-down from a granddaughter's outgrown toys.

40. This almost sounds like a cult! lol! Now if they want realism, someone
should create a doll with colic, screaming on end, or perhaps one projectile vomiting? (Not mentioning creating one that needs smelly dirty diaper changes)

Wait, maybe I should have gotten 2 baby dolls rather than give birth. So much easier! Then think of all of the money I could have saved over the years? Actually, nothing inanimate could ever have taken the place of the connection between myself and my kids.

BTW, when I was a little girl, I had a neighbor, am older woman, who had a Shirley Temple doll on her bed, and although I LOVED that doll, couldn't understand why an adult would have a doll.

Edited on Sat Jan-03-09 01:31 AM by defendandprotect
actually, I saw some of it -- and compliments to the women breastfeeding --

I thought the spokeswoman for this was marvelous --

quite a chore which wasn't mentioned!!!

Re childbirth . . . I didn't see anything there but the intro --

but they've always said the "G" spots at top of vagina and elsewhere were

intended to ease childbirth -- standing up, of course!

The fake babies thing, I don't get except many of those women seemed to have

an excess of wanting to care for children -- even fake ones!!!

but, to be fair, didn't one or two mention they had wanted to adopt?

Woman did astonishingly beautiful work with those dolls-!!!

Edited on Sat Jan-03-09 04:09 AM by Heidi
The child in the story isn't even six years old yet.

Many people are shocked by the idea of nursing a child who is nearly 6 years old, but Paul remains determined to do what she says is best for her child ... Paul's older children -- Morgan, 12, and Siobhan, 9 -- were each breast-fed until age 6, and they appear to be well-adjusted and happy. http://abcnews.go.com/Health/Story?id=6551439&page=1

Children don't require this degree of realism in their toys (in fact it might be dangerous to healthy growth). They understand the distinction between what's pretend and real and are okay
with it.

However adults who have become psychologically stunted and unable to cope with their current reality may require this level of realism because they need to 'buy into it' and are not content to play pretend (as children are).

But I don't think there's much danger of 'normal' adults favoring robotic dolls over real children.
