"Conservative Blue Dog Democrats in the House also are urging a smaller package to reduce the impact on the budget deficit, while liberals want to take advantage of their party’s new clout by pushing long-deferred program goals.

Leaders of the Congressional Progressive Caucus called for a recovery package costing $1 trillion, saying that “anything much less than $1 trillion would be like trying to put out a forest fire with a squirt gun.”

"Smart growth groups and enviros are trying to push the balance as far as possible toward green infrastructure spending: public transit and smart grid. In contrast, Rep. Baron Hill (D-Ind.), incoming head of the Blue Dog caucus, has decided to be a tool, accusing those who want green infrastructure spending in the stimulus bill of "trying to create a Christmas tree out of this."

Because public transit is an ornament, you know. A trinket.

Notably, Hill is the only voice in the piece arguing against green stimulus -- and I bet this isn't the last time the Blue Dogs pop up to push back against boldness. Their mau-mauing against green spending will get more frequent and more annoying as Obama's first term proceeds. "

----

I've been telling you guys.....the roadblocks are not gonna come from the Republicans. They're gonna come from the Republican Wing of the Democratic Party (RWotDP).

Watch for racist/homophobic "Blue Dogs" Democrats like Gene Taylor, Dan Boren, and Rahm Emanuel's Heath Shuler to be some of the GOP's (and big business') best friends in Congress.

fuck the "big tent" and primary some of these asswipes.

1. With "Democrats" like you, who needs Greens?
By the way, some of the most anti-semitic head cases in Congress are in the "progressive" caucus, so you might want to be careful about making accusations of racism.

3. I'd also like to note that there are quite a few Jewish members of the CPC
Jerry Nadler, Steve Cohen, Robert Wexler, Henry Waxman, Barney Frank.

But, OK, the CPC is a racist organization because they don't fellate mother Israel.

4. How long have I been warning -- Just as Kennedy had his
problems with Conservative Democrats, the problems may be of a different
nature but Conservatives will be conservatives.

5. they're like wolves in sheep's clothing. Voting with us on procedural matters but when it comes down
to the substantiative issues -- they'll side with Boner.

6. Any recovery package will be a waste
just like the rest of the bailouts.

What needs to happen is that failed institutions need to disappear, not to get propped up.

Any spending we do on infrastructure should be on its own merits and not for some delusional purpose of propping up the economy. Every dollar spent will either be borrowed (adding to the problem of too much debt which got us into this mess) or taken from private hands (and thus result in no net difference in economic activity).
