trojan alert - if you don't have a gold star and are getting ads - be careful
My cursor just touched on one of the ads and I saw all kinds of fast moving characters at the bottom of the screen, then the sirens went off. I think my security provider caught it. Fair warning.

11. Not me.
I just put one on my head. The ribs and the reservoir make me look rather rakish, I think. ;-)

5. Had the same thing happen last week. I was reading a thread, clicked on a post to
read it and got the sirens too. Luckily it was caught and blocked.

I've not been spending as much time here lately. The pop-ups were even on the log-in page and would suddenly appear as I was typing in my information.

10. That's what I thought
when my computer frozen twice here. Unable to donate at this time due to huge veterinarian bill when I tried to save my 6 years old hearing/signal assistance dog named Shane a year ago today at ER animal hospital and other costs. She died from drug adversary. Her "trusted" vet had given her a combination of dexamenthasone and Rimadyl on same day when I took her in for shoulder limp which I learned later that it was a deadly cocktail. I have filed a compliant against this vet nearly 2 months ago. Right now his license is suspended when the judge decided to uphold this decision from 5th case against him (nothing to do with my case)a month ago! Hope I shut him down when my case hits him for good. Shane and I had moved from native Florida to Arkansas and I made a mistake not check this vet's background which I discovered that he has had 5 compliants filed against him before mine. Shane was extraordinary dog that could read over 100 words in sign language and will never be replaced even though I have gotten another dog named Shania. Shania isn't good at reading sign language yet and she's 11 months old now. Shane was already reading sign language when she was 4 months old and became a service dog at 7 months old.

Well, sorry I came off topic here. I just can't make a donation right now.

18. Thank You
I know I should have posted about this when it happened, but I just was too devastated to even talk about it . She was the best, my heart dog and my partner and my lifeline. This deserves a post on its own which I will soon and let you all know the outcome of Board of Veterinary findings.

23. malwarebytes rawks!...
(in my best Katie Couric voice)

Seriously, tho, I used it last year to clear out a particularly nasty browser hijacker from my parents computer. I tried 4 or 5 cleaners before malwarebytes took care of the problem.

So the Admins have something to focus their efforts on.

21. I believe whatever happened was at the bottom of the screen.
Edited on Fri Jan-02-09 04:00 PM by higher class
I think I moved the cursor over the ad trying to go to the bottom, possibly to scroll. What I remember is catching the view of all movement in the bottom Explorer bar which I assumed was someone gathering a cookie (for lack of better knowledge). I was trying to get to the Explorer bar to click it to copy it - possibly a very dumb idea. I thought I could capture it to report it or look at it or just have it in case I needed it, I guess. In getting to that tool bar, I may have clicked too soon. If that is what happened, it means I clicked only color - no image, no text that was visible, I guess you would say background. What I saw above the Explorer bar was what I thought was another advertisement - a horizontal, brightly colored (aqua-turquoise) bar of color with a border and some words on the left. My cursor was on the right. I assumed it was an ad. My screen is quite small. The action in the Explorer bar stopped then started again and I was trying to think what it was and siren went off. The area I'm describing would be equivalent to a line of type plus a little more - just above the bottom Explorer bar.

I also want to thank the person who donated a star for me just now. I had been planning on sending my small donation to DU - I was waiting to go to the PO for the MO - because the flashing of some ads is way over the top for me. I'll still do it, so that this nice donation/gift for me from this gracious person can, in turn, be given to someone else?

DUers have beautiful souls. Thank you, thank you, beautiful person.

24. I was getting weird pop-ups last week.
No sirens, but I got log-in pop-ups from "Me.com" when I opened threads. I have never gotten them before.

I hope to only be unstarred for another two months. I just got a full-time job, and in this economy, I am overjoyed. It will take two months to catch up on the utilities and other obligations to be able to contribute, finally, to DU.

I wish ALL Americans had jobs.

Has anyone else gotten the "Me.com" pop-up?

25. After reading
the above posts I wonder why so many are still using IE for a browser? Why submit yourself to all that pop-up and pop-under bullshit. I have not seen a pop-up in years. It's very simple use Firefox as your browser and install Ad-Blocker poof no more ads ever and no pop-ups. Also keep your machine clean this is why all the pop-ups. Use Spybot S&D and also use Ad-Aware and Spyware Blaster. Then install Crap Cleaner and use it everyday these are all free programs. It sounds like some of your machines are loaded with crap do what I do and you will not believe how fast your computer is with NO pop-ups.
