They are escaping the "Lord of the Flies" situations on other boards that had been somewhat stable until Obama was elected. The more intelligent ones know it's a bad idea to hang out in places where racism is now gushing out of the sewers and fascists are goose stepping down the street breaking windows, but they are not quite sure how to behave here at DU where milquetoast political centrism is often greeted with extreme snark and negativity.

DU is like Calvin Ball. It's a place where the rules are fluid, and you have to be either quick on your toes or dense and thick skinned. Otherwise you are going to get your feelings hurt, or you are going to say something stupid and get yourself tombstoned.
