CAMPBELL, CA (KGO) -- A teenage girl in Campbell is using her computer savvy to open people's eyes about the faces of the homeless. Why? Because she and her mom are now homeless. Her powerful words are having an impact, thanks to the kindness of strangers.

Katy Hughes is 16 and a blogger -- not unusual except for the topic. Her site is called "Destination Anywhere but Here" and here is homeless.

"I thought we were going to be in the car for awhile and I was hoping you know hope we would be safe and we don't have to move around that much because in the front seat of a car and you don't have room for your feet and stuff," said Hughes.

1. There is a wonderful picture book for kids about homelessness

This is a sensitive book about a boy and his dad who live at the airport. Homelessness is not a common subject for any children's book and a picture book on this small family is a daring deed for Bunting and Himler to attempt. They had to walk a fine line to tell us this story. A misstep in any direction would have brought condescension, over-simplification, false cheerfulness or hopelessness and Fly Away Home is free of all those things.
