Who IS staying at "Blair House" and why didn't they just offer to get out for
the duration of their stay and go to a hotel for the convenience of the president-elect and his family?

Why did the bush's let someone else in there anyway as SOMEONE was going to get elected and want to stay there in the run-up to the inauguration?

1. Because the Bushes are crass, classless white trash.
It pisses me off. Those girls will have to be displaced twice in one month.

11. always wondered about this turn of phrase
I admit I catch myself using the term "white trash" (especially now that I live in the South) but I've always got an inner monologue asking if I would still think it was OK if it was "black" instead of "white"...
what do you think?

"Because the _____ are crass, classless black trash"

12. that does suck
this whole thing must be overwhelming for them at times, and asshole couldn't make it a little less so for this family with young children. I'm sure their parents have made it as seamless as possible for them but still this is a big stressor for them.

2. the bushes are using it for yet more going away parties
and refused to allow the Obamas to move there earlier than the 15th so their kids could be comfortable starting school. :sarcasm: Great hospitality when the cameras are off.

5. We're having a 'going away party' for the Bushes in my house as well...
Big Party on the 20th...

Reminds me of the old joke:

A guy takes his date to her house and says, "Hey baby, how about a "goodnight fuck"?

She replies, "OK, goodnight, fuck"

3. You're asking why Bush didn't act out of consideration for decorum, respect, and principle?
This was just one final little fart in the room from Dubya.

7. Nobody is "staying" at the Blair House.
Bush just wants the reception area available to him or something. Asshole.

8. Because Bush is a spiteful SOB...
More reason to prosecute him after he leaves office. Give him a reason to flee to Paraguay and never return.

9. Apparently Jan. 15th is the normal day that it comes available.
I don't know who is booked for there but it should be up to them, not the White House to make the decision.

10. Great Question!
I can't wait for everyone to start calling Obama--President Obama.

I want to hear proper deference to his position as all Heads of State are due and receive for at least the first couple of years. No more of this second guessing and belittling before he even takes Office.

15. Is this entire building Blair House?

If so, I don't understand why there wouldn't have been enough room for both the Obama family, and a private party or two.

18. yes, why?
Blair House is now a complex of four connected townhouses, including the original Blair House. During the 1980s, Blair House underwent significant restorations, with a new wing added on the north. An adjacent townhouse, Trowbridge House, is being renovated to serve as an official guest residence for former U.S. presidents while in the capital. The combined square footage of the four adjacent townhouses exceeds 70,000 feet, making it larger than the White House.

17. I'm betting Obama can find a rental house for a short term lease.
Yeah, it sucks that Blair house isn't available, but I'd be willing to bet that Obama can find and afford adequate short term housing until the residence has been fumigated. I highly doubt that any landlord is gonna find him a "credit risk" these days...

Those kids are pretty grounded in reality. They will probably view this as one huge adventure and be just fine. The adults are WAY more upset about the Blair House than those kids ever could be.

Just sayin.
