Marinating steak in beer or wine 'reduces cancer chemicals'
Marinating steak in beer or wine before cooking it dramatically reduces levels of chemicals that can cause cancer, according to scientists.

By Martin Beckford
Last Updated: 11:43AM GMT 31 Dec 2008

Researchers found that steeping the meat in alcohol for several hours cut the high levels of carcinogenic compounds triggered by frying it.

In addition, they discovered that beer was more effective than wine at lowering the cancer-forming chemicals, and also made for a better-looking and tastier meal.

New Scientist magazine, which reports the findings, stated: "If you are frying a steak and mindful of your health, then marinate it in either beer or red wine.

"So say food scientists who measured amounts of a family of carcinogens found in fried food after steeping them in booze."

12. I dropped in to a temperance meeting one night some years ago...
the speaker guy was railing about the evils of drink, he poured a shot of whiskey in a glass and dropped a worm into it. The worm shrivelled up and died immediately. "Now, friends, what does that show you??", he bellowed.

I stood up and shouted "If you drink you won't have worms!"

18. Love my steak, my beer, and my wine!
Usually, I have a beer while preparing dinner, I guess I need to do a bit of marinating with an extra bottle, as well!

I know people who do not eat meat or drink beer/wine, but I don't always trust them...

26. The liver is biologically designed
to help animals detoxify plant "poisons", that the plants evolved to keep from being eaten.

28. Great marinade for Tri Tip steaks
1/2 C fresh lime juice
1/2 c chopped cilantro
1/2 c olive oil
1/3 c soy sauce
1/4 c tequila
7 garlic cloves, chopped
2 tsp grated lime peel
2 tsp ground cumin
2 tsp oregano
1 tsp ground black pepper
2 2 pound Tri Tip steaks/roasts, always available at Costco.

Marinate at least two hours. I put in gallon Ziplock bag so I can easily flip and marinate over night. Discard the marinade and grill about 10 minutes per side.
