If you are out there in "DU World" and not Partying....or visiting relatives then CHIME IN! How will this "New World" be.

WHAT are YOUR PREDICTIONS for 2009...and that's Financial, Political and just plain HUMANITY SHIFTS?

Does anyone have PREDICTIONS?

If you have them...maybe we can repeat this post next year and find out WHICH DU'ers DID THE BEST!

Let it RIP...if you are interested....

2. Well....I had a "typo" about "Thing" vs. "Think" so I had to hit "EDIT."
:D.. Still...I wonder how other DU'ers who aren't "out and about, Celebrating Tonight" are thinking.

I live in a Fundie Area...and don't have interaction with other Dems/Liberals/Liberals except on the Internet. So your thoughts are important to my SANITY! Really....Seriously.

3. So why was CNBC saying it's a Brand New World?
I'm terrible at predictions.

Did they make any?

5. Happy New Year, KoKo.
<<Crystal ball ON>>

In general, I think that Obama will get some new public-works type projects going as soon as possible in the new year, and that events will snowball in ways that nobody now is expecting--including Obama. The world is ripe for change, like a supersaturated solution waiting for that seed crystal to trigger a cascade of surprises. In particular, I think people will prove to be much more willing to slough off old attitudes and old beliefs at an amazing rate, once they see that there is no security in the old stuff and a world of opportunities in the new. I think there will be rapid development and acceptance of new technologies, particularly in the realm of energy. They may try to channel the coming changes in health care into"safe" (i.e. minimal) adjustments to the existing system, but it will get away from them. In particular, the private insurance industry will prove incapable of handling the demands made on it because it depends on the private financial industry as a place to invest its funds, and the financial industry will be unable to return the kind of profits it did in the past. At the same time, many of the traditional major employers will be unable to sustain private insurance for their employees. This combination of circumstances will force the government's hand, so a single-payer system, modeled roughly on Medicare, will spring up much more rapidly than anyone now expects. Adoption of a single-payer system will in itself be a major factor in freeing people to engage in a new wave of invention and entrepreneurial startups.

In general, I see the coming few years as a time of hugely uncomfortable shifts, dislocations, innovation, ultimately resulting in a major realignment of the social, technological, and natural world. It will be a much better place, but we will play hell getting there. The extent of the coming changes cannot be overstated. It will be like the period between the end of the old feudal system and the time of the Reformation, but compressed into a much shorter time frame.

11. Very interesting read...thanks for that...
Not anything I can disagree with you there...except maybe a nitpick about how the "time frame/urgency" will go.

I do think we are on the cusp of some very new times..and I don't think we can know yet what all the ramifications will be and that some of it will be very uncomfortable and dislocating for many.

I'll bookmark this thread and see if we can come back to it next year. It sure is "interesting times" we live in. And...tough times.

A Hopeful New Year to You and Yours, btw!

6. All I'm trying to do is live in the moment .
As difficult as that has become. I spent years of my life thinking we would have no more wars and stop destroying the planet and hoping we would finally learn from past mistakes.

Well here we are and still we are talking about the same issues and it's worse. So there it is FWIW.

12. Maybe that's wise advice for now and awhile. "Live in the Moment" and
that could be less stressful while we try to adjust to what's unknown that's coming.

Most times we are all advised to "think ahead, plan for the future." Yet, sometimes maybe living "moment by moment" is called for to keep one's sanity?

Thanks... Something to think about. "One step at a time" is one way to maybe think about it, also.

14. Like a dream....
I'm looking at a crowded freeway, stop and go traffic, then all of a sudden clearing, as if by magic. Now there is only one car, a shiny new car, on that road, which itself has changed into a outdoor ramp rising to a large building's raised floor, a large building among other large buildings. The car is no longer moving, it is painted gold, and no longer runs on oil.
