Do you like Google Earth? Howzabout Google Mars???
Perhaps you're watching the PBS Nova show about our
missions to Mars that's airing at this moment.

But have you been to:

http://mars.google.com/?

Using the tools there, you can visit various regions of Mars as
well as identify where our various missions have landed.

1. With the new and improved GE you can drag your icon to a
streetcorner just about anywhere and do a 360 degree turnaround... I was looking at people in cars and you could definitely recognize someone in their vehicle.... amaaaaaaazing.

The neighbor's isn't ;) .

And the photos were taken prior to us putting our "Obama"
stickers on our cars.

Edited on Tue Dec-30-08 09:22 PM by AzNick
I kid you not. You can see a young guy point a gun at a child to intimidate him, or maybe steal something from him.

And yes, they are African Americans (not a racist statement, just that this type of scene does not happen only in the movies).

I'll see if I can find it again.

Edited: I found it!

The gun doesn't look real, and the other kid is wearing a helmet.

- Continue past the 4 million year old crater until you reach the Big Red Rock (200 km)
- Turn left at the Big Red Rock and continue past the light Red Boulder (1,000 km)
- At the Red Boulder, merge into sand storm traffic, and continue (1,000 km)
- Once at the massive crater, stop (250 km)

- Total Distance (2,450 km)

26. does it tell you to swim across dead space to get to france?
Edited on Wed Dec-31-08 04:48 PM by Soilent Brice
on edit:

never mind. it doesn't do it anymore.

you used to be able to ask for directions from new york to paris and at one point it would tell you to swim X amount of miles across the atlantic. it's not doing it now. LAME.

4. This is just the beginning.. pretty soon there will be layers of shape files containing street grids
or 'canal' grids based on LIDAR, and database layers containing other features and attributes, such as: parcel data, political boundaries, local weather data, webcams and clickable points containing qualitative data, photos, etc.

I might even open my own coffee shop, "Café Du Mons," and link my website to a hyperlink in Google Mars. :hangover:

20. I have been doing GIS for almost 9 years now. How much longer that
lasts, I don't know as our work has dried up. For the most part, I've been doing data conversion although I have done some GPS work which I loved. My company has been involved with making the National Hydrography Dataset (NHD) for the USGS for the past 7 years. http://nhd.usgs.gov/

22. Hopefully we'll be flooded with more work after Obama gets in.
We'll likely see WPA-type building projects, many of which will require GIS-related analysis.

I'm doing research in New Orleans out of necessity, and with no funding. ;)

24. They stated on the NOVA program last night, the Phoenix
had detected a chemical in the Polar region of Mars that was found in rocket fuel making it more difficult for life to survive.

I was wondering if the Phoenix boosters may have contaminated the soil with unburned rocket fuel traces when it landed and this was in fact what the Phoenix detected?

27. The chemical was perchlorate.
I'm pretty sure when that news first came out that I heard that
they had discounted contamination as the source.
