Bush vs Clinton - The Final Exit
When Clinton was exiting the White House you would think by the way that the right-wingers celebrated that they had just marched on Baghdad. If you recall, they were making comments about how the adults were now in charge, etc. I'm just wondering, what kind of euphoria are we going to be dealing with once the Grand Pretender leaves office in a few weeks? Whatever Clinton did during his presidency which was wrong, seems inconsequential now after eight years of George Bush's manufactured war and financial negligence.

So, anyone what to take a gander into the future to see the differences regarding the Final exits of both presidents and how history will remember the legacy of both presidents?

1. It'll be interesting.
But the two departures will be in different enough circumstances that the comparisons won't be really meaningful. Clinton's failings were that he was kind of dull and competent, while also chasing skirts. When he left office people didn't have as much criticisms for his performance in the job; they were upset at his personal failings and at the scandal, which was entirely personal.

With Bush; he fucked up, and there's a sense that he fucked up. He did poorly on the economy he did poorly on the war. So I think his departure is going to be a different kettle of fish; of course he's going to pretend that history will vindicate him. But I suspect he'll retire to his ranch and shut up, for a little while at least.

3. There does seem to be a strange spin regarding his legacy.
Rove and Rice are claiming that history will vindicate him, and Bolton says that 100 years from now, nobody will remember this period in history.

That is just crazy talk.

2. Clinton left with a near 70% approval. Bush leaves with dismal approval ratings

I shudder to think about the possibilities in 2009. :hi:

7. And what are his approval ratings now?
I have to wonder what his approval ratings are now? Much of the economic mess we are in are the result of his policies and his positions.

Phil Gramm may have written the legislation that "deregulated" Wall Street. But Bill Clinton signed the legislation into law.

He may have done well by his own policies and positions. The rest of us, the majority of us anyway, have not.

Like what?

Biggest middle class economic expansion in a generation. A pity this conversation has to be had over and over again on DU. No matter how much you try to make it not so, Clintonomics worked.

on edit:

CNN/Opinion Research Corporation Poll. Dec. 1-2, 2008. N=1,096 adults nationwide. MoE ± 3. RV = registered voters. Results based on adults, except where noted.

"We'd like to get your overall opinion of some people in the news. As I read each name, please say if you have a favorable or unfavorable opinion of these people -- or if you have never heard of them. Bill Clinton."

FAVORABLE: 60% UNFAVORABLE 38%
