Freepers ask: PRAY FOR OBAMA
Edited on Sun Dec-28-08 08:33 PM by grantdevine
The OP:

supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for ALL MEN; For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty.

(and then several quotes about "love thy enemy")

I pray for Barack Obama, as he gets closer to his swearing in. No, we don't like it and we didn't want to see it happen. But now that he has been elected, we pray that You would speak to his spirit, convict him of every wrong thought and action, draw him to repentance, and cause him to seek Your wisdom. Lord, save Barack Obama that America might be saved. Short of this, Lord, keep us through and deliver us from evil.

I pray that this forum would come to its senses and realize that the media installed foreign national isn’t our president.

Father, this morning I lift Obama up to You and ask that You weigh on his heart a discernment that something is missing in his life - something that will fill that God-shaped hole in his heart. Lord, I ask that You bring him into relationship with You so that righteousness would pervade our halls of government. Most High, I lift our government up to You and ask that You cleanse it so that Your light will shine atop this land for all to see. In Christ name, amen.

Truth: I pray that he opens his heart and past with the truth to the American people by submitting his birth certificate to authorities and releasing all of his locked-up and sealed records.
Humility: I pray that he reveals his true identity, including his actual legal name, whether it be: Barry Dunham, Barry Soetoro, or even Barack Hussein Mohammed Obama.
Righteousness: I pray that he if he is found to be a foreign national or illegal alien that he upholds the Constitution by not accepting the oath of office and allows those legally qualified to rule this great country.
Charity: I pray that from his own personal lap of luxury that he demonstrates charity for his indigent African relatives and that he finally spares them at least one single nickel or dime per day, from his pocket, in order to lift them from living in squabble.

What a bunch of nutbars.

I have no qualms with anyone having a belief in God or praying to God. I respect that greatly. These crazies, however, come off like they think Obama is Godless and they're praying for God to intervene in his heart and save them from imminent destruction.

Either that, or they use their prayers to insult and denigrate Obama.

That kind of arrogant and obnoxious prayer God doesn't appreciate, I would suspect.

God does not delight in "prayers" like that. And I don't know who they think they're fooling. Their lips are moving but their heart is far from God.

10. this is where the crazy shit comes from... >link> and explanes tax cuts to the rich
http://doggo.tripod.com/doggchrisdomin.html
"..snip...This article is the documented story of how a political religious movement called Dominionism gained control of the Republican Party, then took over Congress, then took over the White House, and now is sealing the conversion of America to a theocracy by taking over the American Judiciary. It’s the story of why and how 'the wrath of God Almighty' will be unleashed against the middle class, against the poor, and against the elderly and sick of this nation by George W. Bush and his army of Republican Dominionist “rulers.”

As Antonin Scalia, Associate Justice of the Supreme Court explained a few months later, the Bible teaches and Christians believe '… that government …derives its moral authority from God. Government is the "minister of God" with powers to "revenge", to "execute wrath", including even wrath by the sword…
...snip"

"snip...Leo Strauss was born in 1899 and died in 1973. ... He is most famous for resuscitating Machiavelli and introducing his principles as the guiding philosophy of the neo-conservative movement. ... More than any other man, Strauss breathed upon conservatism, inspiring it to rise from its atrophied condition and its natural dislike of change and to embrace an unbounded new political ideology that rides on the back of a revolutionary steed, hailing even radical change; hence the name Neo-Conservatives.

Significantly, Dominionism is a form of Social Darwinism.<48> It inherently includes the religious belief that wealth-power is a sign of God’s election. That is, out of the masses of people and the multitude of nations, wealth, in and of itself, is thought to indicate God’s approval on men and nations whereas poverty and sickness reflect God’s disapproval.

(It was not until I read this article that I realized that this is a fundamental tenet of Dominionists.

Worldly wealth and power are signs of God's favor -- to attempt to limit or decrease one's wealth and power is to disrespect God.

On the contrary, God's elect on Earth are called upon to increase their wealth and power.

It is not sufficient for a man to be a millionaire, or for a country to have sovereignty within its borders -- a man must strive to increase his wealth as much as possible, and a Dominionist government's behavior toward its neighbors must be "invade their countries, kill their leaders and convert them to Christianity".

Furthermore, any attempt to decrease a person's or a country's wealth and power -- to take from the rich to give to the poor, to reduce military spending and power -- is a direct attack on God.)

If “Secular Humanists are the greatest threat to Christianity the world has ever known,” as theologian Francis Schaeffer claimed, then who are the Humanists? According to Dominionists, humanists are the folks who allow or encourage licentious behavior in America. They are the undisciplined revelers.

Put all the enemies of the Dominionists together, boil them down to liquid and bake them into the one single most highly derided and contaminated individual known to man, and you will have before you an image of the quintessential “liberal” -- one of those folks who wants to give liberally to the poor and needy -- who desires the welfare and happiness of all Americans -- who insists on safety regulations for your protection and who desires the preservation of your values -- those damnable people are the folks that must be reduced to powerlessness -- or worse: extinction. ...snip

4. And half those nutbars are Saddleback Church fans.
They probably have a dog eared copy of The Purpose-Driven Life in their desk drawer. Ya just can't lie down with those dogs--you'll get terrible fleas.

These are the Rick Warren faithful. I have to say, the remark of the stupid loon about Obama's indigent relatives "living in SQUABBLE" made me laugh. I love it when pompous and self-righteous nitwits misuse the language! I'm surprised the idiot didn't have them living in SCRABBLE (Go Directly To Jail, Do Not Pass Go, Do Not Collect $200).

6. They still really believe this bullshit that Obama has a huge vault of secrets somewhere.
That will no doubt prove he is part of the Illuminati, The Black Panthers, the Nation of Islam and was no doubt born of the union of a woman and a jackal. Wow, I used to have to take scads of drugs to engage in that much fantasy.

They can spend all their time on their knees for all I care. It can't do any harm and if it makes them feel good more power to them.

22. In defense of the Freepers (well, at least a little bit)
Although many fall into the categories you mention, a few have exhibited what I (as an agnostic) would consider a genuinely Christian attitude. Their viewpoint has been, in essence, that they didn't support Obama but they wish him no ill personally, and they hope the country does well over the next four years.

OK, end of defense -- the posts I summarize above are in the minority. They've generally been met with scathing criticism. Still, voicing even an ounce of good sense on Free Republic takes a certain amount of courage, and their stand shouldn't be denied completely.

23. What you say, is true of a few. With qualifiers needed, in some cases...
..look at the OP. I haven't posted the link, but if you go to the site and search for "obabma" it will come up near the top.

The OP posts some charitable stuff, but included are several lines about loving your enemy. It's not very charitable or helpful to identify Obama as an "enemy".

I see what you're saying, and you're correct. Not all freepers are a$$holes, and it's important to recognize and acknowledge that. Some genuinely hope Obama will succeed for the good of all.

25. Personally, I've always felt that anyone saying they're going to pray for me
must really be cursing me.

It really scares me, and I don't feel comforted at all.

It's a long story, but there was this one time I prayed for patience. As the saying goes, be careful of what you ask for because you might get it...only not how you expect.

Lots of bad experiences with religion and the people who practice it....

24. HEY, here's a freeper with some smarts!!

You’re asking the forum to act like DUmmies?

They pretended for eight years that Bush wasn’t our president, and they looked like fools for doing it.

Maybe the media was too nice to BO during the election, and that helped him get where he is, but the simple truth is he was elected by the USA, the greatest nation on earth, and so yeah, I’ll pray for God to give him the wisdom to lead.

For four years.
