Spencerport man sentenced for attack on gay man
A Spencerport man will serve five and-a-half years in prison for attacking a gay man in a Spencerport bar in March.

Jesse Parsons, 25, was sentenced today by Judge Richard Keenan. Keenan tacked an additional year and-a-half on a four year sentence Parsons was expected to receive after he reached a plea agreement in September. That agreement was voided in November after Parsons made disparaging remarks about his victim in open court.

Parsons had pleaded guilty to second-degree assault, a felony, in connection with the March 8 beating of Lance Neve, also of Spencerport, inside Snuggery’s Bar. Neve, who is gay, told police he and his partner Osbert Maldonato, 28, were at the bar when Parsons made continuous anti-gay remarks, then attacked Neve. Neve, 26, suffered fractures of his skull, nose, left eye socket and upper jaw bone as well as blood on his brain, police said.

Parsons was originally charged with a second-degree assault committed as a hate crime, but the hate crime piece was dropped as part of his plea agreement.

Given time to speak to the court during a Nov. 20 sentencing, Parsons said while he didn’t mean to hurt Neve as badly as he did, Neve deserved it.

1. Let's reach out to him. Let's be tolerant and listen to his point of view.

2. Yes, you're right ...
I should stop being a 'shit stirrer' and ask "why did that man deserve it"?

6. yeah, because people here are telling you to reach out to
violently homophobic people. people here aren't telling you to reach out to anyone who's homophobic. I have been telling people that I think reaching out to people who support 95% of the civil rights for the GLBT community that they should have. One more time: people who support gay and lesbian adoption, full legal protection for the GLBT community in housing and employment, full federal and state rights for people in civil unions- in short, everything short of marriage- are not the same as homophobic bigots who oppose all those things and spread hate. The latter can be reached out to, and their minds absolutely can be changed

7. But, don't pretend it isn't homophobic.

No, they may not be raging fag-bashers, but not all bruises are external, ask any victim/survivor of emotional and mental abuse.

8. uh, are you saying that someone who supports virtually every civil
right for GLBT persons but the word marriage- which, btw, I believe is vital- are emotional abusers? I disagree. The ones I've met- many of whom, have changed their minds over the past few years are people who simply grew up inculcated in a belief that marriage meant one thing. If you want to label people who suppory you 95%, homophobic bigots, OK, but I don't see that that gains anything positive.

And just fyi, I'm a past victim of abuse, both physical and emotional, committed by my ex. Here's one thing he did: When I was pregnant he had unprotected sex with a prostitute. He chose to tell me about it on the way to visit my parents. He also physically abused me. Why do I tell you this? Just to point out that he's now a good friend. And no, he never apologized for all the vile shit. Why did I work so hard to reach out to someone who did such things? Two reasons: life isn't simple and he's my son's father.

9. Perhaps I wasn't clear.

No.

"If you want to label people who suppory you 95%, homophobic bigots, OK, but I don't see that that gains anything positive."

And yet, that is not what I said. Do you understand the difference between "homophobic" and "homophobic bigot?" It may seem like "parsing," and, in some sense it is, because things are not "black and white." Remember: "...life isn't simple..."

"And just fyi, I'm a past victim of abuse, both physical and emotional, committed by my ex.....Just to point out that he's now a good friend. And no, he never apologized for all the vile shit."

Wow, we have something in common.

13. This POS and Warren are two symptoms of the same illness
Edited on Sat Dec-27-08 12:52 PM by Harvey Korman
And Warren is a HOMOPHOBE, and people are telling us we should "reach out" to him by giving him a high honor.

I'm tired of you peeing on my leg and telling me it's raining, cali. Really fucking tired.

3. Ha! If he'd had a lawyer worth a salt, he would have been told to...
SHUT THE HELL UP!

God, what a moran. Bonus points for perpetrating a hate crime.

5. With a name like "Snuggery," wasn't it already a gay bar?
Like "The Pink Pony," "The Manhole" or "Bennigan's," this guy should have known that this was already a gay bar. Why was he so upset?

12. He's going to do a lot of 'personal growth' in jail.
Good riddance. I expect he'll come back a little more enlightened.
