"Key Democrat pushes for second $350 billion from bailout funds before Obama takes office

WASHINGTON (AP) -- A key House Democrat is pushing to get the second half of the $700 billion rescue fund released next month, before President-elect Barack Obama is inaugurated, in part to help stimulate the economy."

5. Do you know where the first 350B went? Do you trust the current group handling
the situation?

Frank has not done a particularly steller performance on the bailouts. It has been mediocre at best, and NO accountability or transparency

2. Maybe Barney thinks the economy needs it and can't wait until Jan. 20th.
Edited on Mon Dec-22-08 08:34 PM by Pirate Smile
Obama is going to get a huge stimulus package - maybe by Jan 20th.

Barney's a jerk. Barack's a jerk. All the Dems suck. :wtf: Why are we assuming the worst motives, ideas, etc. to fellow Democrats? I know we generally assume the worst about Republicans but it seems like now we are supposed to do the same about the Democrats - and I wont so pffftt!

6. Frank may trust the group that spent the first 350B, but I don't
and without transparency OR accountability, we can wait three weeks

9. If you read the article, you will not find much trust.
Barney Frank, chairman of the House Financial Services Committee, said Monday he is preparing legislation to require that some of the money be spent for specific purposes, such as stemming foreclosures and reducing mortgage rates.

At the same time, commercial real estate developers and other companies are seeking their own share of the bailout pot.

Frank's bill would impose tighter restrictions on the second $350 billion of the bailout funds, such as requiring banks to report on their new lending every quarter and toughening limits on executive compensation. Many U.S. banks have received federal capital in an effort to stimulate lending.

and next Congress deal with it

13. As I recall, that whole thing was a freefall clusterfuck. That said, whatever was done,
more bailout funds are required and are coming, now or in a few weeks.

22. I tell you this, I call a bunch of Democrats jerks for voting for the IWR
Edited on Mon Dec-22-08 10:50 PM by still_one
I also call those that voted for the patriot act jerks. Over a millon people are dead because enough of those Congress people did not do the right thing

By the way, there was questionable conflict of interest between Barney Frank and Fannie and Freddie Mac, which perhaps avoided oversight that should have been done on those organization that wasn't

Most of the time Frank votes the right way, but in this case, after what has happened, I want the next Congress and Administration to deal with it. Enough damage has already been done

Strawman much? Barney Frank championed Fannie May and Freddie Mac doesn't mean I think he is a jerk. Your OP was just trying to be trollish.

29. I was responding to your criticism about calling some Democrats in Congress a jerk
That was NOT directed at Barney Frank

The lack of regulation and oversight since 2000 contributed to the mess we are in, and Fannie and Freddie, which have admirable missions, still did not have the oversight that should have been enforced for things as simple as viewing their books

3. I dont agree with Frank about releasing the money before Obama takes office
It seems like a preemptive move so Congress says where the money gets spent instead of our new President.

25. That is NEVER a justification. I want to know why it can't wait 3 weeks?
I bought it for the first 350B how they said the whole financial system would collapse if it wasn't released, and how we would go into a liquidty crisis

What I saw was people still not getting loans, and money still not being released by the banks

Now we are told that it would have been much worse if that didn't happen, worse for who? The CEOs at the financial institutions that were reckless with our trust.

The election brought us a new Congress and Executive branch, I want them to address the problem

He's just one guy (a gay one at that!) and all he did was say one little thing!

What harm could possibly come from that!?

34. lifestyle, sexual orientation, sexual preference, I have no idea which one is politically correct
but for your information, just so you understand my position on civil rights very clearly

I will NOT be watching the inauguration as a protest for Obama using warren in the invocation. I have emailed my disgust to the Obama camp, and contacted my Senators here in California to tell them that I will not be contributing money to the DNC until I see Democrats stop trying to decide who it is OK to discriminate against

However, given the choice today between Obama and mccain, or for that matter any of the current republican candidates, without hesitation I would have still voted for Obama.

His choices for the Supreme Court will tell me if that was correct or not

knows? The banks won't say and the credit markets have not loosened as they were sure they would. Nope...you get nothing until you can tell us where the first money went. Hell NO!

I thought the first money was to "stimulate the economy".
