Have we passed the event horizon?
An event horizon is that intangible barrier which surrounds a black hole beyond which anything, even light itself, cannot escape even in theory.

"Great nations rise and fall. The people go from bondage to spiritual truth, to great courage, from courage to liberty, from liberty to abundance, from abundance to selfishness, from selfishness to complacency, from complacency to apathy, from apathy to dependence, from dependence back again to bondage."

-Author unknown.

I've been seeing this coming for a good bit longer than most I think, basically since about halfway through Regan's tenure as POTUS when I first started looking into the truths behind the drug war because the drug war propaganda was so different than my own experiences as a Dirty Fucking Hippie.

Our leaders have been basing critical policies on outright fantasy for nearly thirty years now, our Republic cannot take much more and indeed may have already passed the threshold from which there can be no return.

I weep for the future of my grandchildren.

1. "...basing critical policies on outright fantasy...."
Kudos for that observation. That is exactly the leadership this country has been burdened with.

3. The insidious thing about an event horizon is that if the black hole is massive enough..
You will notice no difference at all when you pass the barrier going in, nothing will tell you that you have sealed your own doom, but you are a dead man walking. Supermassive black holes apparently exist in all galaxies, even in the center of our own.

We are headed toward a supermassive black hole of political and economic destruction, there is no way to tell whether we have passed the event horizon or not.

2. Yeah. pretty much.
Bush's selection was sort of the last plunge into the toilet. It's hard to see how the present "system" can be reformed. Look at California, look at the federal government, look at our elections, look at the total lack or correlation between government policy and the will of the public. It's all fake, it's all bullshit.

The media is so right wing isbnthis country that jsut being a nudge off cetner is enough to be criticized inot oblivion.

We can only save this nation by re-capturing the media.

5. I'm afraid you're right.
I'd like to believe in Heinlein and Asimov, but I am afraid we're headed more toward Pohl and Kornbluth.
