Poll question: Do you expect of others?
Government, business, individuals? I do not expect anyone to do anything for me. If I call the police or fire department I do not expect them to respond or care. If my car turns over on me I do not expect other drivers to stop or slow down.

I am not making any judgment about them being right or wrong, that's not my business, just saying I don't expect of others.

Do you expect of others?

3. Yes
I don't know why you want to live in a world where nobody cares, or are proud of having such a dogma.

It has never been true of this country, not ever. Why do you think people traveled in caravans of wagons instead of alone. They expected to help each other.

10. The answer to the first question is because this is the world we have

the second. There is nothing to do with pride in the statement. My saying I do not expect of others is no different than my saying the sun rises in the east.

17. No it's not
Not where I have ever lived. If it's that way where you live, perhaps the problem is the shitty attitude you're describing and if people stopped believing they can't depend on anything, they'd organize and demand it change. The way the rest of the country does it.

4. Of course I expect others to have some modicum of respect for each other...
We've only had society for 7000 years, you'd figure we'd have worked the kinks out by now.

8. Yes, I do expect of others.
I expect others to not break the law.

However, if they do, I expect the police to arrest the right person, without assaulting anyone.

I also expect the prosecutor to be fair and not use the case to further his career.

or at least I try really, really hard no to. Although I've never called the police..the fire in my house happened when I wasn't home. When my car turned over on me someone came along and pulled me out..and then he was really pissed that I 'made' him go through that. I can guarantee that people will let me down, and I will let them down, and I will let myself down. But I expect the exact opposite as well. I guess I expect people to behave as people.

13. Of course I do.
I expect others to obey the law, honor their contracts, and for those in my employ (directly or indirectly) to faithfully do their jobs.

And I expect that you will do the same of me.

14. Life experience has taught me that
if you're pulled over on the side of the road, hood up, peering forlornly at the overheated radiator or standing there with the jumper cables out... someone will stop and help.

If I'd had a different life, then I'd probably have different expectations, but in my world, people give their spare change, they help flag down the bus, they stop and make sure the crying child is ok, they sit down with the confused and lost dementia patient until his wife arrives to bring him back home, they rescue the abandoned feral kittens, and they brake for not only unicorns, but damn near everything else.

If you've had a life that leads you to expect NOTHING from everyone else, then you have my deepest sympathy - even though you don't expect that and almost certainly don't want it. I'm sorry.

16. Yes I do, and so do you whether you want to admit it or not.
I am sure you expect someone to maintain the roads that you drive on, I am sure you expect someone to farm the food you eat, I am sure you expect someone to keep the electricity on in your house. Unless you live in a little shack out in the woods and hunt and gather your own food with no contact with the outside world then you have certain expectations that people are going to maintain things for you.

stuff for me personally with no financial gain for themselves.

22. No, you can't trust or depend on anyone.
You'll never be disappointed if you expect nothing and on rare occasions you'll be surprised.
