7. Ma'am...here's my reply ....
This really doesn't make a lot of sense ....

And in particular, I think people need to understand that for gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgendered DUers, this is a very personal issue. If any of us did not enjoy full and equal rights, it is unlikely that we would consider equal rights to be a minor issue.

Again, this is about Human Rights for all -- equality for all --

When any citizen is made second class, even if by organized patriarchal

religion, then it is an issue for all of us to awaken to.

And that is supposedly the lesson learned with the Jewish Holocaust in

Germany.

Additionally, organized patriarchal religion continues to NOT acknowledge

the full personhood of females as it acknowledges the full personhood of

males. This anti-female rhetoric continues to be preached from these

pulpits as vile propaganda.

when he tries to enact pro-gay policies like adding sexual orientation to ENDA or repealing Don't Ask Don't Tell.

There are at least two UN agreements having to do with women and homosexuals

which are still absent US sign-on.

5. I'd suggest yes.
If you go by the strict letter of the rules, then yes, they wouldn't be allowed to post here. And..thats how it should be. This isn't Obama Underground.. and we aren't here to serve him unless we so chose. I believe he is going to be a great leader, he is a good man, and someone who I support.. but he is still just a man, As fallible as anyone else. I love the guy.. don't get me wrong.. but until he starts walking on water, he's no different than anyone of us.

3. We all support equal rights. What you and I are mad about is a prayer
I'm against Rick Warren getting this honor too, but the prayer & invite itself is not an actual attack on civil rights.

By the way, there is no such thing as gay rights. Gay rights do not exist. What Rick Warren attacks and what Barack Obama is vowing to protect are unalienable rights.

4. actually . . .
I think Skinner's exact words were, "opposition to gay marriage is not permitted" on DU -- least slightly different from requiring affirmative support.

9. Semantics don't really help
Maybe try the Latin Forum. We do argue there but rarely swear at each other. Alternative try the Music Interest Group - I've never known an argument to occur there.

11. I don't claim to read the nuances of Skinner's mind; but

to me, the o.p.'s re-statement sounds a bit more extreme than what he actually said.

I do support full equal G+L rights including marriage, and I am not sure what to think about Obama's thing with Warren.

I just don't know enough at this point to pass judgment; please forgive me.

12. Neither do I
know enough. All I know is that in the UK they settled for civil partnerships with all of the benefits of marriage. I can only assume that's due to the likelyhood of maybe getting further changes in the future. See here for example :

10. I hung out with a group of five lesbians in my dorm in my freshman year of college
One week, four of the five of us tried to kill ourselves. Independently of each other.

There's a lot of people here who don't get it why "mere symbolism" matters so very much.
