After reading dozens of threads, I have changed my mind
about this Warren thing. At first, I saw it as a rather harmless sop to the conservatives. However, after reading more about Warren, I've now come to the conclusion that the invitation should be withdrawn by Obama.

Warren's overstated (suspiciously overstated) position on homosexuality and same-sex marriage, coupled with his barely concealed dominionism, and his noxious sexism, make him completely unsuitable as an invoker for a Democratic President's inauguration.

I retract any posts I may have made that indicated that I considered his appearance as nothing more than a nuisance, and will work as hard as I can to see that he does not appear on the dais.

3. Maybe, we should have a discussion about what a "uniter" and a "divider" really means.
Edited on Fri Dec-19-08 08:46 PM by sicksicksick_N_tired
because, IF a uniter is someone who ONLY HITS IN THE PARK of those neglected over the past seven years THEN there is a relevant segment of the population that will feel as alienated as those who have been.

PLEASE, let us prove our ability to be thoughtful and respectful and embracing as we would ask others to be.

Otherwise, may as well settle for perpetual war.

4. I'm glad you changed your mind even though you were fine before.
Warren is a detestable sob though. I don't see why Obama felt compelled to go there.

8. He went there because
He has been ballyhooed in the media as the leader of the fundies.
Ya know, like when the aliens land they state: Take me to your leader.

7. At first I thought...
well, this is ONE thing. Let's wait for the open gay Supreme Court Justice! BUT, the more I hear/read, the more it's clear there should be ZERO "tolerance" for Warren.

9. here's the thing
I'm with you. It took me a lot less time to get to stage 2! Obama is at Stage 1, or at least was. I am positive he won't retract. But he needs to be made very, very uncomfortable with this decision. That's the best we can hope for at this point.

The Warren guy is just SO BAD, on many, many issues. I don't really like the money/preacher thing anyway.
