Minn. Islamic group wants investigation into fast-food toys
The Minnesota chapter of the Council on America-Islamic Relations is calling for an investigation into a complaint made against the Long John Silver's restaurant in Mall of America.

CAIR-MN wants the restaurants parent company, Yum! Brands, to look into claims that religious literature was distributed with a children's meal.

According to CAIR-MN, a Muslim family visited the restaurant in November and ordered a children's meal for their three-year-old son. The toy that came with the meal was a notepad that featured a quote from the Bible. The family requested an alternative toy, but said only notepads with Bible versus were available.

3. Well, these are private businesses, and I guess they can distribute whatever
literature they want....but if I got such stuff, that would be the last time I patronized that place.

4. Oh brother!
Over a 3 cent gimmick. Take a felt pen and scratch out "Build with Jesus." Or rip off the cover. The kid can't read yet and probably destroyed the whole thing in under a minute anyway.

:eyes:

If I were the parents I'd be more embarrassed about feeding my three-year-old god-awful junk food.

5. The bottom line is
not everyone is a Christian in this country and doesn't appreciate getting bible verses with their burgers and milkshakes or is ok with contributing to a franchisee that uses their money to donate to take away other people's civil rights. That's why I refuse to eat at In-n-Out Burger and wouldn't patronize a Chik-Fil-A if they were the only restaurant in town.

10. That's your right.

The three-year-old is too young to be aware of anything but the cartoon drawings anyway, but if I had an older child and some restaurant distributed a penny item pertaining to another culture or a religion, I would find it a good opportunity to open his/her mind and perhaps begin to make him/her aware of the world around them, even if it wasn't our particular belief. My parents did that, and I'll always thank them for it.

The reaction of CAIR to this minor nothingness is so out of proportion, it's ridiculous, IMHO. At some point people are just going to drown in their hyper-sensitive, pedantic, religious squabblings.

6. I'm curious what Bible verse it was
It doesn't matter, and I wouldn't particularly want my daughter to get that either, but I'm still curious.

8. It probably wasn't that one from Leviticus
proclaiming shellfish to be an abomination.

13. Thank you!
That is very specifically Christian, isn't it. What were they thinking? Only Christians would ever buy a kids' meal?
