Hey, you GLBT people!

I'm a straight white married male. I can't imagine how you must feel these days. For the very very VERY little that it might be worth, I'm sorry.

3. Same here. Well said.
This Warren thing has really brought the ugliness right out in the open...which I suppose is a good thing in the long run-- at least we can now recognize the homophobic freaks among us.

Hispanic, white, male, married, straight.

I'm dissapointed in Obama's choice for the inauguration.

For what it's worth.

Love.

We're angry. We're struggling for equality, we have to deal with some asshole bigots who try to pretend they're "compassionate" by preaching how to "cure" oneself of their sexual orientation.

We're faced with 30 states who have ratified bigotry into their state constitutions. One state had marriage equality, but that was taken away from them this November. We were as joyous as anyone when Barack Obama was elected 11/4...and then we were faced with Prop 8 winning, plus marriage amendments winning in Arizona and Florida. The one in Florida is really nasty, because it bans everything...marriage, civil unions, domestic partnerships. And oh...Arkansas passed an initiative banning gays and lesbians from adopting.

And now we're faced with a new President who says he's for gay and lesbian equality, but on the other hand selects a man who is our enemy to give the invocation on Inauguration Day. It's a confusing message, at best.

I shouldn't rant. I just need to get it off my chest.

Thank you, friend.

10. Please don't apologize to me, I don't deserve it.
I haven't done enough, not nearly enough, to ensure something as simple and basic as equal rights for all. I owe YOU my apology, and you have it unconditionally.

You shouldn't have to put up with what you've been dealing with here. A place made up of liberals should be a pretty friendly spot. :(

I'm a white middle aged hetero female and I am sorry. I can only read, talk, think, try to understand how hurtful it all is and realize how far we have left to go.

11. There are straight folk here that are gay folk's best allies
We all know that times are tough right now. Which is why it's best that we stay united.

Just remember that a house divided against itself can't stand

12. I'm a straight married old white woman,
and I never knew what our GLBT brothers and sisters were going through , it was something that never affected me until I found some friends that were gay, and I am sorry for my ignorance. This can not be tolerated,it is morally wrong for them to be discriminated against in any way. This is a fight that we ALL have to join in.

I wish some wouldn't be so quick to condemn entire political parties becauce of a few people inside them not seeing eye to eye with them on certain subjects, however

Adding my support to this thread. Everyone should have the right to be married for 42 years as my husband and I are.

25. Amen, everybody!
I'm a straight single white middle-aged woman, and I feel bad about this too.

I've always been sympathetic to the cause in part because of some high school experiences. First, I had a couple of buddies who suffered because they were considered "faggy looking". Secondly, I was a really geeky kid, and I have some sense of what it's like to not fit in and feel like you have to hide who you are.

I've had a membership at a gay bar in my neighborhood for a couple of years, and the people there have been really good to me. I can't imagine not supporting their equal rights. (Up here in Canada, gay marriage is legal, and it's illegal to discriminate on the basis of sexual orientation.) I feel that I owe the GLBT community something, so here's my expression of support.

With all the people to choose from, I can't believe Obama couldn't find somebody better.

I've stood with my GLBT cousins all my adult life, and taken the hits, too. I'm sure not going to stop, no matter what.
