Parent forced their daughter into marriage.
This is some vile action by the parents.

On arriving at the family home “she was manhandled into the property by a number of people and immediately locked into a room,” the statement read. “She was always monitored by four or five guards and she was not free to leave the property. Her passport, tickets and other documents were taken from her.”

She was able to alert friends in Britain via text message, and a Bangladeshi human rights organisation called Ain O Salish Kendra (ASK) came looking for her at the family home.

Either my husband or I will read a news article aloud, and then ask "Florida or Texas"...:)

2. There is a little perspective for you
This woman is oppressed and incarcerated by her family due to some crazy ass culture shit and a majority of the post on this forum for the last two days have been about a group feeling oppressed over a prayer.

Granted the gays in America are oppressed and granted Rick Warren is a total ass but it should not reach the out rage it has and the oppression of women by a culture such as the OP should be an outrage.

I hope that everyone sees the Rick Warren thing in a little different light and doesn't let that totally disenfranchise them from the Obama administration. He hasn't even made any official policy yet.

Maybe all the passion can be channeled into changing the worlds view of gays and not at the administration. At least until he makes some official policy that harms your cause.

3. "A group feeling oppressed over a prayer"?
What a relief to know that it's merely a bad "feeling" in no way associated with millennia of oppression or the incoming Administration.

What a relief to know that thanks to the imprisonment of a woman in Bangladesh, Rick Warren can be seen in a different light.

What a relief to know that Rick Warren's selection to lead an Inauguration prayer doesn't harm the cause at all.

4. Forced marriage has scared and dismayed me since a child.
My father's mother was forced to marry my grandfather, even ran away on her wedding night to her sister-in-law's home. (She was returned the next day.)

6. Very fortunately she has been rescued

What an ordeal.

It's not unknown for there to be cultural clashes between highly-educated and often 'westernized' Asian-origin women and their more traditional families. But taking it to this point of kidnapping and forcing the marriage is extreme (though not unknown) and very frightening.
