FRANKEN VICTORY PROJECTED

Franken Senate Victory Projected
December 18, 2008 07:57 PM

Democratic challenger Al Franken finds himself on the cusp of winning a seat in the United States Senate after Minnesota's canvassing board awarded him a host of challenged votes during deliberations on Thursday.

As of 8PM ET, the Minneapolis Star Tribune projected that Franken would finish the recount process with a lead of 89 votes, positioning him to become the 59th senator caucusing with Democrats in the upcoming Congress.

According to local paper tallies, Franken currently trails Sen. Norm Coleman by a mere five votes, down from the 358-vote margin that the Republican held just last night. The Associated Press has the count even closer, with Coleman ahead by two votes. An aide to Franken told the Huffington Post that, according to the campaign's internal count, Franken has already taken a small lead.

4. Let's wait until the recount is completed and the court challenges settled.
It's simply too close (Franken down by FIVE at the break) to accurately predict what may happen.

That also incorporates local elected officials to oversee the rational and fair application of such. Al Franken sure got a lesson on it, didn't he :-)

97. One of those wusses you speak of is Al Franken. He ridiculed "electoral conspiracy theorists"
on his radio show in the wake of November 2004.

But that was only AFTER he maintained a total blackout on discussing the topic for weeks, until the public anguish against his taboo forced him to mention it.

Franken is Joe Lieberman #2.

60. They should have made every politician in GA, AL, et al. fly to MN
to observe what democracy looks like. If they could see it in action, they might want to actually develop a democracy in their own state.

When you can't verify an election, you don't have a democracy: you've got whatever it's called in GA, a cyber-sham democracy maybe.

You can't have a democracy when the votes are counted in total secrecy without verification by private companies (who are almost certainly pouring money into the campaign coffers of politicans on the take to make sure Diebold, et al. make their billions), using machines that according to every serious study are open to hacking, patching, and fraudulent programming, especially by insiders, in ways that are completely undetectable.

Democracy takes awhile, but it's so worth it.

70. I watched the count yesterday - they quit for the day, in another 5 minutes Franken would be ahead
It is the sanest way to recount I have ever seen - very well run, no question about the fairness of the count. Almost all of the challenged ballots are going for Franken. A few are being put into the overvote or undervote piles and very rarely one is found for Coleman, but overall the count for Franken increases about 1 vote for every minute they count. Yesterday they quit counting because of a preagreed time of day to quit - plus they used the last 30 minutes for other related matters, housekeeping if you will. When they begin counting again Franken will take the lead almost immediately.
