Party committees still in debt from 2006
WASHINGTON - Campaign committees for the two major parties continued to carry debt from the expensive 2006 congressional contests, according to their latest financial disclosure reports.

Some committees showed fundraising prowess in February despite heavy competition for donations from 2008 presidential candidates. Others reported smaller receipts compared to the same period two years ago.

As typically happens, Republicans outraised Democrats. The three Democratic committees together raised $11.6 million; the three Republican committees gathered in $13.3 million, according to February reports filed with the
Federal Election Commission.

• The Democratic National Committee had receipts of $4.6 million, a drop from its fundraising for the same period in 2005. It reported $7 million cash on hand and $4 million in debt.

• The Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee reported $2.7 million in receipts, an increase over its February 2005 number. The committee had nearly $2.5 million in the bank and debts of $6 million.

• The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee raised $4.3 million, up from February 2005. It reported $4.3 million cash on hand and $9.25 million in debts.

• The Republican National Committee raised $7.2 million, down from two years ago. It had $10.75 million cash on hand and no debts.

• The National Republican Senatorial Campaign reported $2.4 million raised, up from 2005. It had nearly $1.4 million in the bank and debts of $794,571.

_The National Republican Congressional Committee had $3.8 million in receipts, down from 2005. It also reported $1.6 million cash on hand and $10.4 million in debts
