Christian Defense Coalition interested in the hungry all of a sudden: will protest Dem fundraiser
Contact: Rev. Patrick J. Mahoney, 202-547-1735, 540-538-4741 cell

WASHINGTON, Mar. 21 /Christian Newswire/ -- Christian Defense Coalition calls it hypocritical for the Democratic leadership to participate in one of the largest political fundraising dinners in history when it campaigned against what they called the GOP's "culture of corruption" regarding finances.

Group asks how many poor and needy people could be feed with $28,000 and says that the Democratic Party has now forfeited the right to say they are a party that cares for the poor and needy.

The demonstration will be held on Wednesday, March 21 at 6:00 P.M. The location is at 1255 Crest Lane in McLean, Virginia.

The Christian Defense Coalition will sponsor a protest tonight outside a private Democratic fundraising dinner in a home in upscale McLean, Virginia to be headlined by Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi. The group says Pelosi's new rules against members accepting gifts are applied unevenly, shutting out Christian evangelistic efforts under the guise of strict ethics regulations while allowing lobbyists unprecedented access in exchange for huge sums of money.

The Christian Defense Coalition will be present with signs near the private residence where Pelosi and ten chairmen of the top House congressional committees will rub shoulders with lobbyists and other special interest donors who paid $28,500 per couple to gain face time with Pelosi and other powerful leaders in the House of Representatives.

Some of the signs will read, "Congress is not for sale" and "How many people can be feed with $28,000?"

According to the Washington Post that may be the steepest price ever charged since new campaign finance laws were passed five years ago.

"This is the height of hypocrisy," said the Reverend Patrick J. Mahoney, director of the Christian Defense Coalition. "The Democratic Party promised they would change the climate of corruption by the Republicans for accepting large donations from lobbyists and special interest groups. Yet, they are now participating in a fundraiser dinner for the outrageous price of $28,000. The question must be asked how many needy people could be feed for that amount. Speaker Pelosi and the Democratic Party have now forfeiting the right to try and present themselves as a political organization that is concerned about the poor and needy. And, they need to be reminded that Congress in not for sale."

1. The Bible specifically says...
...that the poor are blessed. Christians must care about the poor. I think Mr. Mahoney is correct in this instance.

7. Don't know...
Find a GOP fundraiser that costs $28,000 and then call Mahoney and tell him about it.

12. don't have to. ten seconds on Google returned hundreds, even thousands, of events
featuring Bush and or Cheney, ranging from $500 to $5000 per plate, and holding many many more people than this event. Each one raises more cash for the RNC than this one event will probably raise tonight. And Bush is doing it on your dime.

But, just like these freaks, I really doubt that you give a shit at all about all the people that kind of cash could feed.

17. They can't help themselves, can they? Not a subtle bone in their body.
Make up a user name with hippies and drug use in it, since we're all stoned flower children to them...but then, apropos of nothing, start defending Republican Jesus-speak.

5. Why are you laughing?
Are you laughing at people who go to bed hungry every night? I'll bet you're not hungry, so don't you dare mock those who are.

CHARLESTON, S.C., July 29 — President Bush directed unusually harsh criticism at the Senate today for its version of a welfare bill, which he said would hurt the people it was trying to help. Almost immediately afterward, he collected more than $1 million at a Republican fund-raiser.

10. Well, let's have a look at the Christian Defense Coalition's books, shall we?

I'm sure they'd be happy to show us just how frugal they've been with their money, carefully doling it out to serve the poor and hungry. As opposed to dirtying their blessed little fingers in politics.

Christian Groups Plan More Monuments

By Alan Cooperman
Washington Post Staff Writer
Tuesday, June 28, 2005; Page A06

Within hours of yesterday's Supreme Court decision allowing a Ten Commandments monument on the grounds of the Texas Capitol, Christian groups announced a nationwide campaign to install similar displays in 100 cities and towns within a year.

"We see this as an historic opening, and we're going to pursue it aggressively," said the Rev. Patrick J. Mahoney, director of the Washington-based Christian Defense Coalition, which organized vigils outside the Florida hospice where Terri Schiavo died this year.

... Mahoney said the Texas decision was sufficient to "open up a whole new frontier" for preserving the United States' "Christian heritage."

(snip)

Mahoney, a minister in the Reformed Presbyterian Church, said a coalition of evangelical Christian organizations would analyze the Supreme Court rulings and formulate guidelines for erecting Ten Commandments monuments that can pass legal muster. He said he sent fundraising letters yesterday to 600 potential donors, hoping to create a national fund to pay for the monuments.
