It makes Shrub look like a victim. It also makes any Iraqi resistance to the invasion or occupation look like the violent fools the Reisdent wants them to look like.

Frankly, I wish it hadn't happened and I wish so many here wouldn't think of him as some kind of hero.

It was one beautiful metaphor and it destroyed any attempt to make this trip into some fugging victory lap. I haven't laughed this much for ages. Let me go watch Colbert Watcher's clip again.

9. A Victim???
That someone expressed outrage at his decisions and actions?

No harm was done. Even if one or both of the shoes connected, I would be hard pressed to see Bush as a victim.

38. I feel that very few will really feel for him.
Even over in Freeperland, they are spewing crap about his reflexes and how Bush should have "waded into the crowd and kicked his ass," but they aren't trying to portray him as a victim.

I think most folks are wishing the shoes had connected.

15. I disagree
especially since the gentleman was a journalist and probably a member of the middle class, not your stereotypical insurgent or religious fanatic. It just highlights the frustration that the Iraqi people have with the current administration and its set of policies. He could have either written an article on the subject or taken a powerful symbolic action. I'm sure he calculated beforehand which would bring more attention to his cause.

40. Let's not go there, ok?
This horribly abused Iraqi journalist had had enough and submitted this culturally relevant insult to Bush... He did not attempt to severely harm him and I would never ever justify someone doing that.... Even if you hate him enough to wish it so, why would anyone ever want to make a martyr of Bush*?

Contrary to minority opinion a thump with a well placed shoe pitch would hardly cause irreparable harm.... Nothing as bad as Bush*s pretzel run in! But, it certainly sent a message during Bush*s attempted "reinvent his legacy" (and historical facts) tour.

24. Since it has been reported
Since it has been reported that this reporter has been held captive during the course of the United States invasion and occupation, and since he yelled that his actions were on behalf of the widows and orphans created by the Bush Doctrine, I'd have to say that his was a very measured and restrained response. As far as any appearance of being a "victim," I'd have to say that one isolated incident hardly compares with all the pain and misery that Bush has inflicted on the world at large. Only someone of very limited intellect could make a comparison.

The only one who looks like a violent fool is W. He was the one who flung cluster bombs on a civilian population. Anyone who is going to berate the Iraqi reporter for flinging a couple shoes at him is a fucking asshole. The guy is a hero. He made a statement few have dared to make, even here in America. 44. Imagine this scenario:
Our country has been taken over by another country to which we'd done nothing. Our country is devastated by these invading armies, and our populace is murdered - women, children, all innocent victims.

This goes on for five years, and your family suffers, things are horrible.

You are invited to an audience with the man who is responsible for all of this carnage and suffering.

What do you do?

Believe me, if someone did this to the United States, I'd be proud to be known as "an insurgent."

Patriots come in all shapes.

52. I also regret the incident, because mainly I wish the guy
had been slightly more accurate. He gave it a good shot, but in this case an inch is as big as a mile. Maybe if he'd let a friend handle the diatribe part so he could concentrate more on the timing and accuracy of the throw.

Don't get me wrong. I don't want to take anything from the effort he made. It was A-One. It's just that the whole affair leaves something to be desired.

Anybody whose context of George Bush and Iraq was limited to today's shoe footage, is going to misunderstand ANY video clip they see. You'd have to have been in a coma for the last 8 years not to know that no shoes were ever so justly lobbed.
