Charged astronaut gets new Navy job WTF?
Charged astronaut gets new Navy job 51 minutes ago

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas - The former astronaut fired by NASA after she was charged with trying to kidnap a romantic rival will develop flight lesson plans as part of her new military assignment.

Navy Capt. Lisa Nowak will work on developing curriculum and training programs when she joins the staff of the Chief of Naval Air Training Command in Corpus Christi next month, said a Navy spokesman, Lt. Sean Robertson.

She was originally expected to report for work this week, but Robertson said Nowak will start her new job in April.

Nowak was arrested Feb. 5 on suspicion of confronting a romantic rival in a parking lot at the airport in Orlando, Fla. Police said Nowak pepper-sprayed Air Force Capt. Colleen Shipman, the girlfriend of astronaut Bill Oefelein, and had in her possession a BB gun, steel mallet, knife and rubber tubing.

Just what we need, ANOTHER unstable crackpot in our
national employ.

Shit, we only employ whack jobs now? I have a number of acquaintances and a couple of relatives who, considering their insanity/dishonesty factors, should be prime employment material for this administration.

2. Probably awaiting the results of trial or courtsmartial
Believe me, she has been given an extremely insignificant desk job for a Navy Captain; however the paycheck keeps coming.

in fact that is the kiss of death for any military career

Even if she is not charged, wanna bet this is the end of her illustrious Carree and will not advance any further and be ahem counseled to retire at the end of the tour

And yes for the cynics among you, being selected to the astronaut program, even if she cracked later on, is quite an honor

12. I'd be surprised
if she has not already been dropped from selection board consideration. That would be a helluvan embarrassment to the canoe club if she got a Star. But now, she has plenty of time to hang out at the gym inbetween developing training curriculums. I recall my wife got an award at NASA and her coworkers smuggled me in during the work day. The presenter was an astronaut, a Navy Commander and he sure sucked up to my wife when he saw my Anchors. Being selected for the astronaut program is awesome.

14. Woe that is a cool story
My only viist to NASA was at oh 8, perhaps, as a tourist.

I remember the size of the assembly buulding, but mostly the gift store, that icecream was ... strange

15. There is a NASA
Site about 15 minutes from here. My Wife works there (ergo our residency in Mississippi.) Nary a bad word is ever spoken about NASA in our household (or the Navy.)

5. It cost millions of dollars to train her.
I'm glad the Navy found a use for her, they can't trust her to fly anything now obviously but at least she can develop lesson plans.

6. I should have stayed in the navy
The biggest screw-up I ever met while on active duty is now the admiral in charge of CentCom and felonious whackos get to stay on the payroll. Why have I actually been working all these years?

7. She needs a job until they decide on CM proceedings
They first have to hold an Article 32 if memory serves

And on the civilian side they need to decide whether there is nenough to warrant charging as well

10. nasa is just another assignment for naval aviators...
when nasa sent her packing, the navy has to give her another assignment until she has her day in court.

there's a whole lot of money that has already been spent on her training, and she is supposedly a VERY intelligent woman...otherwise.

11. Extreme Stop-Loss...
Hey, she's still active duty. Since she was released and apparently is not a flight risk, until she actually goes to trial then courts-martial, she is still supposed to be working for Uncle Sam in a normal duty status.

16. "privileged"?
Captain Nowak is employed while the legal process works itself out.

She is an intelligent & well educated woman who crowned her career by becoming an Astronaut. Then she "crashed & burned." Those who know more than I have pointed out how her career is at an end.
