MSNBC: Conyers hasn't signed the subpoena yet - giving WH a chance to "work things out"

<snip>

Conyers still has to sign the subpoena before it is issued. He has not done so, and for the time being it will be "held in abeyance," per a committee source, while they see if they can work things out with the White House.

2. I think he's being a gentleman
and offering bush a relatively easy way out. I don't believe Mr Conyers will blink.

best we have!

3. Hm.
A gentleman's agreement gesture...giving the WH the chance to fire people or push for resignations first. Makes Dems look less like on the partisan attack later -- "they had their chance to compromise," etc.

10. Gentlemen's agreements work only when dealing with gentlemen.
When dealing with professional criminals, you treat them as such. Delay only gives them time to figure out how to delete emails.

15. This is posturing for the public and wise I think.
They have the goods, no reason to force the issue today. Tomorrow may be different, or if ** tells them there will be absolutely no compromise.

7. I was told by the guy answering Conyers' phone that he had issued
the subpoenas already. I had him repeat that, just in case I heard it wrong. Anybody else hear that he has?

11. I do hope so
though the whole thing seems to be generating a massive yawn (like usual) with John and Jane Doe around here.

16. Correct me if I'm wrong
but I think this is just the first step. After Conyers signs, the subpoenas have to go the the full House to be voted on. Do it. Keep the heat on!

26. I think you're wrong...the sub-committee issues the subpoenas...
..if they are refused, THEN the whole House votes on whether to hold them in contempt of congress or not....
