There are three possible scenarios, one of which you may not have considered.

1. The Democrats did not have enough votes to pass the auto bailout.
2. The Democrats had enough votes to pass the auto bailout but didn't because certain of them didn't want it to pass. (I don't think so, but there you have it. It's been put out there.)
3. The Democrats had enough votes to pass the auto bailout but wanted to make the Republicans look really bad and then pass the bill anyways when they take over the U.S. Senate in a few weeks.

Of course I'm not sure of it, and not even sure if it would be worth it to do that, but I'm keeping my eye open on this one. But one thing: the Republicans have shown their true colors.

2. Do you think we can survive six weeks?
I hope we can, but even then you still have these Dixie Jackasses hanging around like a bad fart in an elevator.

5. 26 days
The 111th Congress is sworn in on Jan 6th. The session starts officially that day, but the 7th is likely the quickest anyone could ram a bill through. That's less than 4 weeks away.

Bush will sign it.

3. #3 doesn't really make sense.
Democrats took over the Senate 2 years ago.

Besides, that sound really distasteful that they would be playing with peoples lives to make the other side look bad.

4. Yeah, I know, it's kinda a stupid theory.
It's late and all. Let's let it sink.

I didn't really believe it but maybe as a distant possibility that was being overlooked. But it's true, it doesn't make any sense.

6. I don't know if it's a possible scenario or not, but...
...it won't matter if we look like "the big heroes" in six weeks if GM and Chrysler have gone Chapter 11 in three. And that's a real possibility -- at this point, I might even consider it a probability. :-(

7. I don't think the Democrats wanted to pass the bill.
It would've passed if all the Democrats eligible to vote had actually shown up. :hi:
