5. You're full of it, Old Crusoe. As has been well established by the Bush
administration, scientists are not to be trusted.

Every time you turn around, some goddam scientist is in a laboratory trying to invent something or discover an AIDS vaccine or a cancer cure or improve the quality of life for any and all of us. They never stop. Sure, they're intelligent, but look at what they're DOING.

These scientists want to take all of God's thunder. They can't be satisfied with creation as it is -- O no. Not them. They persevere and persist and ponder -- all those Ivory Tower traits Bush and Cheney have warned us against.

And what does that hyper-liberal Muslim socialist Obama do? He APPOINTS a scientist for a key Cabinet role. An act of the highest betrayal.

The main objection is that by choosing this elitist fancy-pants egghead for a key Cabinet job, Obama asserts the primacy of knowledge, exploration, discovery, and the potential elevation of the human condition.

As such, it represents a MAJOR impediment to a corporate-driven theocracy so many have worked so hard for so long to achieve.

And what's next -- progressive Supreme Court appointments?

Sheesh.

8. He's my favourite pick of Obama's so far. I like Hillary as SOS but this is really
important too. Energy Dept run by a physicist. Amazing.

10. Hi, applegrove. Yes. To have a real-life scientist running a
science-driven department . . . wow, what an abrupt and uplifting change from Dubya's Cabinet people.

And over at the Nobel Committee, I don't think they just hand those awards out to the first chump walking down the sidewalk. I think folks have to earn it.

12. Absolutely. As I said in another post imagine an energy secretary who could
understand the initial technology behind new sources and methods of producing energy. Imagine someone who could look at ideas and see their potential.

9. Lawrence Berkeley Labs has taken a lead on green energy
I'm very happy Obama chose Chu. On NPR today, the reporter said that he has close ties to China climate specialists and has been working on a joint approach to avoid climate change. I'm thrilled by the this appointment.

11. cally, I agree. It's more than just a sound choice. It carries the
possibility of mutual cooperative problem-solving among nations.

This Obama guy is making a lot of good decisions this year.
