One day after 21 people were arrested during a demonstration that vandalized a U.S. Army recruiting office on Milwaukee's east side, Wisconsin peace activist groups on Tuesday said some protesters might increasingly turn to destruction as their frustrations mount.

It's the third time in about two years that Doug Mack, a glass installer for T&L Glass, has had to replace broken glass at the Army recruiting office on Oakland Ave. Mack replaced the glass Tuesday.

"That's what impressed me," said Miner. "People have been very respectful of the fact that violence doesn't get us anywhere

1. Violent Protest is likely to be counterproductive
On the other hand it will let those few who participate in violence mythologize their lives, which is presumably the real goal (whether they want to admit that or not).

But if their goal was to actually stop the war and improve society, such violence would be counterproductive.

3. Not long after the end of the Vietnam conflict....
--- ... the Wall Street Journal published a little-mentioned article about the actual "means" whereby the years of student-led anti-war protests had helped to bring an end to the war. Believe it or not, they attributed a large part of the nation's growing dissatisfaction with the war to the insurance business. That's right. Somebody had to pay for all the damage that the students were doing to their various college campuses, etc,... and that usually meant an insurance company. The damage costs had mounted up to the point that the insurance companies were having difficulty operating within their normal fiduciary constraints. The war, if you will, had become no longer "worth" the cost.

4. Any damage protesters cause would be minor compared to The War
which is costing the country hundreds of billions a year. Add that to the destruction and lack of recovery from Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, and the incredible cost of not providing health care to nearly half the country (many of them children who therefore develop chronic illnesses that will cost billions in lost productivity as they age), plus the national debt AND trade deficit, and we see that bushco itself has caused far, far more damage to every business sector in the nation than any group of protesters could ever imagine.
