I always wondered when Bush's stupidity would mess up the whole scam.
Here it is. Wow. What an incredibly stupid thing to say. Bush just lost the GOP everything.

WASHINGTON - A defiant
President Bush warned Democrats Tuesday to accept his offer to have top aides speak about the firings of federal prosecutors only privately and not under oath, or risk a constitutional showdown from which he would not back down.

Democrats' response was swift and firm: They said they would start authorizing subpoenas as soon as Wednesday for the White House aides.

"Testimony should be on the record and under oath. That's the formula for true accountability," said Patrick Leahy (news, bio, voting record), D-Vt., chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee.

Dum dum dum.

Somebody who is going to lie and doesn't want to go to jail for it.

2. He and Cheney got away with it and should be forced to testify under
oath. Bush can't beat the law, well. Maybe.

3. Those who are afraid if they tell the truth, the go straight to jail!
HA! I laughed when I heard Shrub say that! What a dumbass! If you're really trying to protect your behind, the last thing you want to do is issue an ultimatium to your opponent! It's like daring the bull with a red cape, you idiot!

4. It's funny, really

The whole object of testifying under oath is that the fear of God so often professed by these people will keep them honest.
They're demonstrated repeatedly by their actions that they can't possibly be Christians much less have any fear of after life punishment.
And yet the though of swearing to a God they clearly don't recognize produces fear in them.

6. Ooooh. The weight of perjury charges against them becomes more clear.
If they lie in court and are caught, not only is it perjury, its lying in an oath to God, hand on Bible. Devastating for their base. I forgot about that.

9. I second the motion.
It is a huge mistake. If Bush ends up laying down his cards, its going to be bad. either just bad for him, or Katrina/Iraq huge failure associated with his name bad for him. I can't see a winner coming out here.

5. Boosh used to say the voters gave him a mandate.

Well, in November they gave the Dems a mandate to make these thieves and liars accountable. And that is just what is about to happen.

13. Funny how he doesn't talk about his mandate any more.

Probably because it occurred to him that he never had one in the first place.
