1. Can't say I hate him but his policies put us on this path to economic destruction
and much as he is deified by the conservatives, I see him as a net detriment to the country.

3. The only thing Raygun did right was raise Ron Reagan, Jr. ...
It's the ONLY thing that redeems him even SLIGHTLY in
my eyes ... The fact he (and Nancy, for that matter)
were accepting enough to allow Ron to grow up as an
unabashed atheist and liberal is AMAZING to me ...
No Stepford Family Nixxxxxon daughters for Raygun
at least ... Other than that, he allowed himself to
be taken over completely by the Davis clan, to change
from being a union member and advocate into a laissez-
faire capitalist, anti-union crusader -- just a wreck.
I'd like to see how he would have turned out had he
not divorced Jane Wyman ...

16. Amen to that...
Ron Jr. = Awesome, Michael Reagan = P.O.S. I can't stand Michael Reagan and his RNC inspired hit pieces that appear on the local paper's editorial page.

10. I despised him in 1980 and still do
Edited on Sun Dec-07-08 02:27 PM by DavidD
Until Little George came along, I didn't think I could despise a president any more than I did Reagan.

For that matter, until Reagan came along, I didn't think I could despise a president more than I did Nixon.

Makes me wonder what Republican might come next.

Sarah Palin . . . .

We came pretty close to getting her. I think if anybody other than Obama had run, we might be looking at President-elect McCain and president-in-waiting Palin right now.

14. "Greatest generation's" greatest mistake.
I define hate as giving time, talent and energy against someone/something.

I will give a measure of each against Reagan's legacy.

I put GG in quotes because they are not the greatest, only book titled as such. Our greatest generation continues to shine as our Constitution's founding fathers.

18. Clinton VERSUS Reagan? Reagan and Bush's true legacies were easily rehabbed in the 90s.
Gee....wonder why. Especially since Kerry and Gonzalez had worked for YEARS to uncover and expose many of those operations. Now Reagan and Bush are dedicated statesmen and leaders. What HAPPENED in the 90s that allowed Reagan to become a sainted figure and Poppy Bush's family allowed to maintain AND gain so much power?

Once upon a time there was an engineer
Choo Choo Charlie was his name, we hear.
He had an engine and he sure had fun
He used Good & Plenty candy to make his train run.

Charlie says: "Love my Good & Plenty!"
Charlie says: "Really rings my bell!"
Charlie says: "Love my Good & Plenty!"
Don't know any other candy that I love so well!

21. + James Watt (Sec. of Interior)

Most anti-environmental Sec. of the Interior ever. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_G._Watt

My dad took early retirement from the Bureau of Land Management mostly because of Watt's policies that he was being forced to implement.

I had a cartoon up on a bulletin board for years. It showed Reagan and Watt whispering to each other - Reagan to Watt: "You get the trees, I'll get the people." (Referencing Watt's pro-timber company stance, as well as Reagan's fondness for the "Neutron Bomb", which was designed to kill people through radiation rather than through massive destruction. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neutron_bomb

33. Exactly - they all should've been jailed after the BCCI report's release in Dec1992 - instead, their
legacies were rehabbed throughout the 90s and BushInc grew stronger without the oversight, leading this nation directly into a Bush2 era, a 9-11 event and the fast track for global fascism.

28. Can not stand him, could not stand him
He was the first politician whose actions I was aware of in the real world. He signed his name, and then suddenly a few kids in school no longer got free milk, and later he played mumbledy peg and dress up games while thousands died of AIDS, as he refused to so much as say the name of the disease, much less force the vile insurance companies to step up and pay up.

Edited on Wed Dec-10-08 09:49 AM by socialdemocrat1981
One of the few instances where Walter Mondale really succeeded in smacking down Ronald Reagan and his use of cliched idiotic catchphrases of hollow rhetoric. Really, I know Mondale was supposed to be a poor candidate, but he was dead on the mark in this instance
