I skipped all the talking heads this morning and I feel really good
Edited on Sun Dec-07-08 12:28 PM by Cyrano
If I don't tune in every Sunday, I feel like I've betrayed my responsibility to stay informed. And usually by about 11:00am, I need a bloody mary and a valium.

Today, I watched none of them and I feel just great. There are no idiotic George Will utterances floating about in my head. And there is no Brokaw "gotcha" making me gnash my teeth.

Maybe someone blew up the eastern hemisphere today. Perhaps Texas has been invaded by Mexico. And Obama might even have appointed David Duke to his cabinet as Secretary of Intolerance. But sometimes, ignorance can be sheer bliss.

I suppose guilt will make me rejoin the world tomorrow. But today, I'm enjoying a feeling of peacefulness.

Try it occasionally. It's really good for your health.

1. I'm thrilled that I missed that memo!
I don't have a TV and if I did, I don't think I would want to watch the Sunday shitfest, even if I should.

2. funny, I watched the talking heads and feel good...

much better than I have since the unemployment #s came out on Friday. George Will was his usual idiotic self, but he was quickly drowned out by rationality, decency and calm. He ends up looking like somebody shoved a lemon in his mouth, which gets stuck on shut. Peggy Noonan was who usual drooling idiocy at first, but then was smart about the transition and Shinesky. Everybody had nothing but good and hopeful things to say about what Obama has done so far. Even Bob Schieffer shut stupid Jeff Sessions up when he suggested that letting the Big 3 go into bankruptcy might not work since nobody would buy cars from bankrupt companies. Even Tom Friedman was making sense.

Once again I'm thinking of buying a black box instead of letting my tv go the way of the dino, just so I can listen to Obama's talks. When he talks, I feel so much more serene and hopeful. What a freakin' change from the last 8 years, when I'd get up and turn off the tube to avoid the awful sound of * emitting loud, stinky and offensive farts. Followed by the press oohing and aahing over the stench.

5. After a lifetime as a Washington lawyer,
I quit watching them during the Clinton years, and I've discovered that there are much more rewarding things to do on Sunday mornings.

It's a waste of time, when you consider you're listening to people who don't actually do anything, but, rather, sit back and comment on what others do. The concept is best exemplified by the caveman drawing scene in Mel Brooks' "History Of The World, Part I," when the proud caveman had just finished his drawing and the first critic arrived.

I would urge all to get that DVD and watch for that scene, if they're not familiar with it.

Congratulations on your abstention. I'm not surprised that you feel good.

6. Keep doing it, it gets better and better
and soon the nagging feeling you might have missed something earth shattering goes away.

I mean, c'mon, you know all the gasbag shows have the same format, one token mushy middle Democrat outnumbered by hard right loons, all bleating their talking points past each other. It's a televised series of bumper stickers. It's not a conversation, it's not a debate, and it's supremely unimportant.

If anything of importance happened this morning, you'll find it on LBN here at DU or in the videos.

7. Welcome to the light and life in the fringe.
The trick to being a Merry Scamp is not thinking outside the box, it's escaping the box. Once free all of your thoughts are "outside" the box.
