CNN asks students: what is your opinion towards the war in Iraq?

I think that we should still fight in the war, because if we don't then terrorists are going to invade our country even more, and we have to stand up for ourselves.

I think that we should get out of Iraq because we've been over there for four years and that is definitely long enough. People get killed over there every day, not just Iraqi citizens but American troops! There's roadside, car and suicide bombings on every block it seems. Plus when Mr. Koczot gives us current events to do, there's barely anything truly interesting, it's ALL about Iraq. When President Bush decided to deploy about 20,000 more troops overseas I thought that was totaly uncalled for. We already have enough U.S. troops over there. What I'm trying to say is that I don't think being over there for four whole years is such a good idea. I just want them to come home, because my dad is in Baghdad, and when I watch the news and hear about all these bombs that are going off in Baghdad I really worry about him.So I wish that they would all come home and let Iraq sort out their problems on their own with their goverment, their president (leader) and their people.

Jessica from Draper, Utah
I think the war in Iraq was totally pointless to begin with. I wish President Bush would be smarter and let the soldiers come home. I feel that we won't win the war. Everything in the world is getting way out of control, and I don't feel safe in the U.S. anymore.

Leah from Draper, Utah
In my opinion, the war in Iraq is somewhat necessary, but it seems a little bit out of control. I think that it wasn't our business to try and fix their government and problems in the first place. But it is too late to change that.

Some interesting views...

1. Mercy that's a bit sad, how 'bout reading some Tuchman
So perhaps I wasn't the best of the best at that age, but I could still see a political make-me agenda when I saw one. These children, at best! are brainwashed.

(In direct response to these brainwashed TV clones, Bush caused the war. Day one. 9/11/2001. History will not be kind to the bloke, thanks to the efforts of the good people of the good state of the world/internet. Yeah!)

I doubt any of the brainiacs interviewed will go on to relevant higher studies and actually demonstrate anything worthwhile. More likely end up in a dead end job, like me, at best pushing at windmills.

God or anyone of that nature help us.

Who said Iraq was a problem to begin with? How pejorative, narrow and xenophobic is that! Oh yeah I forgot, they're not like us. They read, they speak well, they have an old culture, but they, oh no, look funny!

Shucks I read on another chain on this site something about the problem all being in Afghanistan.

Nooo... problems right here in your spoiled little ahems, people.

Get a clue. Catch up with history. Catch up with the world. You are so provincial! So narrow. So brainwashed. So--well, uneducated. Read would you please, everyday, everyway, math, history, languages, economics, fiction, classics and trash, biology, anything but what you are prescribed. Anything but just the internet. Set yourself a goal. Descartes. Camus. Lescroart. Kingsolver. Tuchman. Marx. Proust.

Let yourself go.

Lordy sweet Jesus, be the ideal you espouse, or shut up.

Signed,
An American who's bothered to look

An American that knows we didn't invent freedom nor have a patent on it

An American that knows we're just not all that

An American that suspects we're throwing the baby out with the bathwater, and paying good money to do so

2. God, even the anti-war kids sound like idiots.
"I want to end this war coz Mr Koczot gives us current events to do, and I think all this Iraq stuff is like, so bo-ring."

For once in my life, I'm starting to support a draft, but only for this dumbass!

3. Little harsh on the kid there, don't you think
After all, her dad is over there, and being exposed to more and more news about the shit going down in Iraq, day in and day out is bound to bring anybody down. Hell, I'm well into middle age, and even I get fatigued from hearing all the bad news coming out of Iraq, and I don't have any family members over there to worry about. Geez, cut the kid some slack.

4. Hey!
"The March of Folly", Barbara Tuchman was published in 1984!

Don't you think we could've dumbed down this book to high school level reading by now?

As fall Wichita, folks, so falls Wichita Falls.

She also authored Guns of August 1962, The Bible and the Sword (huh?), Stillwell and the American Experience in China, 1911-45

===> Please pick anyone of these, *parents.* <===
