It is Just Me Or Did Bush hurt his case in his rant today.
Edited on Tue Mar-20-07 08:48 PM by Ioo
I was in the car on the way home so I listened to our “President” in his “I am King, you are not allowed to ask me or my people anything” speech. As I was hearing the speech and I kept saying to myself, “Who the hell told him this was a good idea?”

Bush took about 15 mins to basically tell the Democrats that he dares them to ask questions. What is perplexing is that in one breath he says that he and his advisers have done nothing wrong, yet in the very next breath exclaims that he will not allow advisers to testify under oath, or with a transcript, and in fact the full committee cannot even be present. It begs the question, if was so aboveboard, and why the paranoia and secrecy? Seriously folks it is almost comical how out of place each and every sentence was his speech. The credibility of this administration is nill, to go on television and tell the American people that everything is okay and that we should “trust him” is absurd.

The Republicans in the House and Senate who will soon stand for reelection must have buried their heads in their hands with embarrassment, and it was only because I was driving that I did not do the same.

1. It will be the Republicans
who tell Bush "The jig is up!"

He should worry about them, not the Democrats.

3. He cooked his own ass.
You can talk to Rove but not under oath or in public.

He came off bad and all but said that he will fight to keep his
secrets secret. This was not smart on a day when the senate voted
94 -2 against him & Gonzo.

7. Without taping or even transcribing
In other words, if he DOES tell you the truth, which he will deny, he will deny it all.
He will say you "misconstrued his words".
It's a shell game.

5. I had a very similar, if somewhat opposite, reaction
I know that sounds contradictory... but then these days, what doesn't? :)

I took exception to his claim that his advisors shouldn't have to be worrying about speaking to Congress about what they advise him; and yet he allows that they can speak to Congress. Just as long as they are not on the record or accountable.

WTF? Oh yeah, nevermind, this is bushworld.

10. What happened to his bipartisanship speeches....
I've thought all along that everyone involved in this scandal have been acting waaaay guilty. Like children trying to get away with something. At first I did not think this whole issue was a big deal until I heard how guilty Gonzalez, Rove, Snow and the Decider have come off. I think they are hiding way more than the public knows at this time.

This Administration loves to justify their actions with Clinton's. Ok. How many times did Bill have to testify under oath????? If Bill had to do it..........

11. Sad sack routine, but sad for US too. Guess who enforces subpeonas?
Attorney General.

And the Assistant Attorney General is a scum-sucking toad named John Negroponte who makes Alberto look like a boy scout in short pants.

This will become one hell of a show down and the people will have to out pour enmasse to protest at State Capitols around the Nation until the government starts taking US seriously.

Man of no conscience. He won't even show a bit of nervousness lying under oath if he has to. Old black ops guy back to Honduras days. Nasty piece of work.

I think you'd see Republicans actually get off their fat asses and walked to the White House to drag his ass out if the Attorney General tried to not enforced the subpoenas. And if the Republicans didn't do it I'm almost certain that that point that the American people what.

And remember, the FBI is still spying with warrantless phone taps and they don't even have to do it in writing, they can phone the telecon & just declare it's an emergency.

They love it when Bush pops a boner like this. This is vintage Dominionism. This is the 300, standing unflinching, vigilant, and defiant in the face of the onrushing shady hordes of barbarians. I just never realized that WE were the barbarians.

He did not testify under oath, and he would only testify WITH Cheney present at the same time. (Could not be sure they kept their stories straight?)

and I use him to guage what the average person thinks who pays minimal attention to the news. The condescending tone pissed him off and his first reaction is that he has something to hide if he won't let them testify under oath.
That simple.

36. Well I thought he did hurt his case but
can't say that that that is an objective appraisal. Anyways he sounded defensive and nervous. He tripped on a sentence and had to look at the script at one point as if he had to word this right, it was definitely scripted. High pitched voice, shifty, deer in headlights look. Worse than usual.

37. I'd say he shot himself in the foot pretty well, yes
His body language, his phrasing, his tone of voice all said "I'm pissed and I'm petulant and I'm gonna hold my breath until I turn blue!"

I'm sure he thought he was being forceful, but anyone outside the die-hard circle of red kool-aid drinkers is going to look at his chewing the scenery in this afternoon's over-the-top performance and think that the Bushie doth protest too much.

There's no doubt that he drew a line in the sand and double-dog-dared the Dems to step across it. Thing is, his credibility is so shot and his arrogance so naked and his ground so shaky by now after all the out-of-line crap that's been piling up around him that this may well have been the worst possible time for him to try turning it into a pissing contest.

And as was pointed out on another DU thread, virtually everyone in the House and the Senate, not to mention most all the other government officials, are lawyers by trade & training and even the pro-Repub ones are still gonna get their fur up about him fuxing around with the rank-and-file judicial operating staff like this.

I was thinking while I was watching him during his live presser the same thing that I'm thinking now as I read this thread -- oh boy, Georgie, you done gone too far this time and now you are really screwing the pooch but good.

And it couldn't happen to a more deserving guy, either. Whatever ton of bushit cuts loose and lands on his head now, he piled it up and hung it there all by himself.

unqualified, unelected, unintelligent, uncaring, uncouth, uninspired, insipid, stupid little mouth, but so far, it doesn't seem to have done him much damage, what with the corporate-whore reich-wing media giving him a pass at every opportunity, and congress having done absolutely nothing to keep the boy king in check since he stole his throne...
