Ky. atheists want God out of homeland security

FRANKFORT, Kentucky - A group of atheists filed a lawsuit Tuesday seeking to remove part of a state anti-terrorism law that requires Kentucky's Office of Homeland Security to acknowledge it can't keep the state safe without God's help.

American Atheists Inc. sued in state court over a 2002 law that stresses God's role in Kentucky's homeland security alongside the military, police agencies and health departments.

Of particular concern is a 2006 clause requiring the Office of Homeland Security to post a plaque that says the safety and security of the state "cannot be achieved apart from reliance upon almighty God" and to stress that fact through training and educational materials.

The plaque, posted at the Kentucky Emergency Operations Center in Frankfort, includes the Bible verse: "Except the Lord keep the city, the watchman waketh but in vain."

More after the jump.

1. What has God EVER done to keep this nation safe?
Or is this the same kind of delusion where "I have a magic anti-abduction amulet. Since I got it, I have not been abducted by UFOs. Therefore, it works!" actually makes sense?

4. This Xtian agrees with them--if they fail, does that give them an excuse to blame it on Him?
Or on unfortunate Kentuckians who didn't cough up enough to charismatic yahoos? Or both?

6. How did this nonsense ever make it into law in the first place?
It reads like some juvenile prank.

7. So insecure in their beliefs they need them codified in secular law
Christians need constant reinforcement of their belief system lest they "go astray". If given the opportunity to think for themselves for any length of time, many Christians would simply walk away from the superstitions and magical thinking promoted by religion. To keep that from happening they are urged to constantly "immerse" themselves in the bible, to "pray constantly and fervently" and to look to the pulpit for leadership.

Leaders in the church realize that in order to retain converts they must put constant pressure on them to conform, to block out all "worldly distractions", to fill their minds with only approved texts/music and to surrender "their will to God" (which always means surrendering to the nearest proxy).

They also crave so-called persecution, for it enables them to believe that they are meeting opposition. And the opposition is labeled as Satan (or his minions). If they are opposed (persecuted) it must mean that they are "on the path of righteousness." They glorify martyrs, for they have "fought the good fight" until they perished.

So, they work hard to insert language into our laws to "verify" their belief system. Look at how they often crow that even our money has "In God We Trust" or how often they claim that this is a Christian Nation. They need constant reinforcement lest they fall prey to their own natural ability to think for themselves.

It is no different than any other cult.

10. REAL Christians.......
aren't afraid of challenges to their faith-it strengthens it.
REAL Christians know that we were given brains, heart, and soul to be used accordingly.
REAL Christians know how to live in this world but not be of this world.
REAL Christians know that Jesus set the bar high-we should try to live our lives by his example.
REAL Christians know that we all come from differents places but we are all GOD's beloved children.
REAL Christians are fearless because they know they are never alone.
REAL Christians render unto Ceaser because Christ concerned himself with the spiritual and eternal.
REAL Christians love one another because that is what we were instructed to do.

Each day, an untold number of REAL Christians go about their lives trying to be the best they can. Unfortunantly FAUX Christians get all the headlines-except in the last weeks of December.

13. There is Pauline Theology and there's Christ
Too many churches seem to focus solely upon Paul's interpretation of the teachings of Jesus. It's almost as if they are afraid of letting Jesus speak for himself. And why should they? He comes across as a peace-loving liberal.

Pauline theology dominated the seminary I graduated from. Jesus couldn't get a word in edgewise.

14. While Paul had some insite......
Jesus was well spoken AND sharp as a tack. He had some of the most eloquent solutions and defended himself brilliantly when he chose too. Really.....

Having a person with out sin casting the first stone, the fable of the Widow's Mite, etc, etc.
